Her dissertation chair is Dr. Linda Carman Copel, and her committee member is Dr. Jennifer Gunberg Ross. Dr. James Vines and Dr. Andrea Hollingsworth served as examiners for her dissertation defense.

Mollie Ostick had a successful dissertation defense on Nov. 7. The title of her study is: “Nursing Student and Faculty Perceptions and Uses of Generative Artificial Intelligence Chatbots in Nursing Education: A Mixed Method Study.”

Congratulations to Kendra Duran for her successful dissertation defense on Wednesday, Nov. 19. The title of her study is “Determinants of 30-Day Hospital Readmission Rates for Patients with Heart Failure: An Analysis Using the 2021 Nationwide Readmissions Database.”

Her dissertation chair is Dr. Jan Hinkle and her committee member is Dr. Linda Copel. Dr. James Mendez and Dr. Michelle McKay served as examiners for the dissertation defense.

This fall, 21 Villanova Nursing sophomores are spending their fall semester SHU Di**le Ireland, thanks to a unique collaboration between Villanova and Sacred Heart University. Through aligned curricula, students are able to take core nursing courses like health assessment and microbiology—alongside Irish music and religion classes taught by local faculty.

This immersive experience is not only academically rich, but culturally transformative: Students live in local cottages, explore Di**le’s stunning landscapes, and build meaningful bonds. As one student put it, “Study abroad truly changes you, and for the better.”

Bridgette M. (Brawner) Rice, PhD, MDiv, APRN, FAAN, Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at the M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing, has been awarded a $798,000 R25 Education Project grant from the National Institute for Nursing Research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

This is the first R25 Education Project grant in Villanova University's history and will support the launch of the Scholars for Applied Research and Impact (SARI) Program. SARI will equip PhD students through mid-career nurse scientists with the skills to conduct high-quality research focused on systemic and institutional factors.
