Dr. Smith provided insight on the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on Hoke County. At this time, there are a reported 214 confirmed positive cases with 1 COVID-19 related death. Dr. Smith applauded the tracking, tracing, and treatment efforts of our local health department and other healthcare providers within our county.
Dr. Smith asks that individuals continue to practice the 3 Ws whether they choose to participate in the protest or not and ask individuals to assess their health status before joining in on the protest to ensure they or no one else are put in harm’s way, if they do so.
1. WEAR a mask or cloth face covering.
2. WAIT at least 6 feet apart.
3. WASH your hands and use hand sanitizer.

When the group was asked about solutions to prevent police brutality and/or unnecessary police killings in the future. The group unanimously agreed that voting was a vital key to improving our community and that policies will only be proposed and passed if we have elected officials who also believe in those policies and are willing to carry and see through the wishes of the community they serve.
William E. Hollingsworth, the WMFA-AM 1400 kHz radio station owner and Chair of the Hoke County Democratic Party, offered additional insight on the importance of voting and how encouraging the younger generation to get involved will be the key to making voting effective and meaningful. Mr. Hollingsworth encourages individuals to register to vote and provided his personal cell phone should anyone need assistance or have questions.
