Today we pause to recognize military children, especially the ones right here in our own community.
This story was shared with me and it reflects how many of the children we work with face especially in times like these. THIS IS NOT A CLIENT.
“I don’t really know what’s going on… but Daddy has to leave again.
He says we won’t get to talk very much. The last time this happened, every time we talked on the phone there were scary sirens so loud my ears would ring.
Mommy seems sad and doesn’t really want to talk about it.
Who will take me to school now?
Who will check for monsters in my room at night?
Daddy’s chair will be empty at dinner.
My birthday… what about my birthday?
Daddy is going to miss it…”
For our service members, uncertainty is part of the job. But for their children, that uncertainty can feel even bigger and harder to understand.
Military children grow up learning courage, resilience, and sacrifice long before most of their peers ever have to.
Today we honor not only those who serve our nation in uniform, but also the little ones who serve in their own quiet, brave way, through long goodbyes, empty chairs at the dinner table, missed birthdays, and hearts that learn strength far too early.
April is the Month of the Military Child.
Today we salute them. 💜
