Iāve been reflecting on the fact that at the beginning of THIS month, it has been 8 YEARS since we saw our FIRST patients in 2017.
Many of you may be new to Dove (or maybe youāve never heard my story) so I want to paint a picture for you of WHO we are, where weāve BEEN and where we are GOING.
Iāve had a lot of āirons in the fire,ā as you will see. Iāve faced a lot of trials, had many business āfailuresā and losses as a young entrepreneurāand at the same time, God has been FAITHFUL to me and to Dove Family Health. This is a small part of my testimony, if you would like to read it to know and understand me, Dr. Morgan Goss, DOāthe owner and founder of Dove Family Health.
My husband David and I started Dove in Rainsville at a VERY small office in the Body Vision Gym facility in 2017 when our daughter was 2 years old. We moved to Alabama from Florida to pastor a small church in Rainsville, the church where we met in our youth group days.
Soon after, we moved locations into a large āhouseā on McCurdy Avenue out of necessity, as the space we were in had another purpose already arranged prior to our sublease.
Meanwhile, in order āto serve more Alabamians,ā as you will see in our mission statement, we launched an office in Huntsville in late 2017/early 2018. We did this in FAITH, but we ended up selling this office to a friend from HSV who was better positioned to take it to the next level that we just were not prepared for.
During this time, around March of 2019, I received the Huntsville Entrepreneurs Award offered by The Catalyst for āEmerging Entrepreneur of the Year.ā It was a humbling experience for me because I honestly felt like the āworst entrepreneur in the world.ā
Why? Well, as I received that award, I was in the process of SELLING the office in Huntsvilleāat a major financial LOSS. I was broken and I wasnāt sure the future of Dove, to be honest. I didnāt even want to receive a reward. I wanted to HIDE.
No one likes to talk about the losses entrepreneurs face, only the gloryā¦ but I share because God gets the glory of my ENTIRE story. His faithfulness of walking with me even during the low times of Doveās history is precious to meā¦
During the same timeframe of this selling of the HSV office, as we were moving into what I will call the āhouse officeā on McCurdy Ave, an opportunity opened up with our new landlords needing something like Dove in Albertville.
I had called this complete stranger to ask about his rental properties in Rainsville (at the recommendation of a family friend) and he invited me to speak to his staff about caring for their companyātotally UNEXPECTED, a complete āGod winkā letting me know that even in my current defeat and difficulties of losing an office and during my brokenness, God was working on my behalf with a hidden blessing.
Even to this day, they are the largest company Dove cares for and over time the relationship has deepened and we have an on-site location, blessing their employees every day. Only God.
Moving forward, āCovid happenedā at the beginning of that next year and nothing has ever been the same. Another set-back. Yet, God remained faithful. The Covid era was TOUGH. Tough emotionally. Tough financially. But God. We survived.
But in the summer of 2023, we made the very painful decision to close our Rainsville location. Why? We were not profitable thereāstill losing money every monthāand it was honestly a very difficult office to grow and manage, given that the community of Rainsville is small and really could not sustain the growth needed. So after almost 6 years, we transferred our services to Albertville, and kept a small triage station in Rainsville to help best serve our DeKalb County area patient members. We unfortunately lost many patient members during this transition, understandably. Another painful loss. But yet again, God remained faithful and turned our mourning into joy.
During the last few years at Albertville, God has blessed us graciously. The City of Albertville joined Dove, and we LOVE caring for our cityās public servants. Itās a joy and honor to serve those who serve us every day. Firefighters. Police. The folks who keep this amazing city running and thriving. Itās the HONOR of my life to serve this community in this capacity. Truly.
And beyond that, God has gifted Dove the most AMAZING employees to care for our community with. I sincerely am so GRATEFUL for those who help make my dream a reality for this community. I feel God has planted us here for a purposeā¦
And that purpose is to CARE for THIS CITY. This region. To be a loving, caring medical office for people to feel HEARD and truly listened to. This is why I created Dove with the Lordāto be a safe haven for the hurting.
Why did I name my practice āDove Family Health?ā Because doves represent peace. They represent loyalty. They represent the work of Holy Spirit in our lives. And thatās what we want to be FOR YOUāour community.
There are some really awesome medical offices in this region that offer top-notch health care. But I PRAY that Dove is known not by our āprestige,ā not just by our expertise (although we are quite knowledgeable), but that we are known as a bunch of people who CAREā¦ who SERVEā¦ who LISTENā¦ who FEEL your painā¦ who genuinely want to make a difference in each of our patientsā lives.
Our Dove Familyāthatās what we call you. We consider each of youāour patient membersāto be our Dove Family. We try our best to treat you like our own family. And we may fall short at times. We may miss things at times. We are humans, just like each of you.
BUT WE WANT TO BE THE BEST FOR YOU.
We know what it feels like to be sick. We know what it feels like to lose loved ones. We know what it means to be scared concerning our own health. And we pray that our āDove Nestā is the place you land when you are weary and need a person who cares.
That is us. That is Dove Family Health. That is me, Dr. Morgan Goss, DO. This is a snippet of my testimonyā¦ of the Dove journey.
