Having a positive relationship with God changes the structure of the brain. It strengthens in young athletes mental agility, the ability to find purpose beyond performance, and form an identity not defined by wins or losses - all skills for life flourishing!
It promotes a healthy view of pressure and setbacks, and help players accept feedback independent of their self-worth.
Faith also encourages strong sportsmanship and community by inspiring athletes to see their efforts as part of a collective whole.
Thank you Chaplain Gabe (Duke Football), Cedric Peerman (UNC Football), Al Byrd (NC State Football) 🏈 and all of the chaplains who are with the coaches and players daily, in practice, at games, traveling, serving across the nation and as you spoke at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Banquet, with a willingness “to be present.”
This incredible young athlete and exceptional speaker, in the last image, spoke about his discipling other young men and the impact FCA has made on the players as believers, as young men, and in the sport.
Working with coaches and athletes on the mental component, renewing the mind to the truth of who you are and the gifts you have been given so that their internal state influences the world around them rather than the world around them affect their internal state is my passion and purpose.
A special appreciation for Duke 💙 for inviting me in and to Chaplain Gabe for inviting us to partake with the FCA family.
With joy,
Jessica Myers
