Don’t wait, call your BCBA!

Leslie Price, PBS Student Analyst, reminds us of the importance of remembering our role.

As an RBT you are trained to implement, not design, behavior interventions. If school staff ask you to adjust goals or services, refer them to the supervising BCBA for your client (BACB RBT Code 2.06). RBT’s are mandated reporter. If you suspect abuse, neglect, or safety concerns at school or home, follow the reporting protocol immediately and document appropriately (BACB RBT Code 2.09).

As providers, the sandbox is big enough for everyone this school year.

Alyssa Phillips, Regional Clinical Training Coordinator and PBS Ethics Committee member shares how collaboration with other providers ensures client-centered care.

When working with our clients in the school/daycare be sure to work together and play nice in the sandbox. We all want the client’s best interest to be the main focus! Work with the teachers/other providers on ways the client can be successful, we want to create an awesome multidisciplinary team!

Dr. Shane Spiker writes, "Back to school can be a difficult time for many of our learners. Ethical and effective transitions back into school doesn't have to be painful, though. Behavior analysts can plan sessions to include gradual transitions into school routines, which can successfully reduce risks and potential harms related to the change in routines."

Summer may be ending, but swimsuit safety is forever.

The Autism Society of Florida reports that children with autism are 160 times more likely to drown. You can keep your loved one safe by dressing them in swimsuit colors that are neon and vibrant to increase visibility.

These colors include bright, neon colors like orange, yellow, and green to help your loved one stand out in the water.

Avoid blues and dark colors, as they can blend into the water and make it difficult to spot your loved one.

While bright swimsuit colors improve visibility, active supervision is the key to keeping your child safe.
