At this point, there’s enough evidence to suggest that we should be doing as many vitamin D tests as we are questionably accurate COVID tests.

If you don’t know your vitamin levels, the general rule that I’ve been following for the past 15 years comes from the vitamin D research council, which recommends 1000 IU of vitamin D3 per 25 pounds of body weight.

However, you really want to get your levels tested because genetic variations in the VDR gene can mean that you require much more vitamin D. For example, with my genetics, I need three times the “normal“ dose.

The current recommended daily allowance of vitamin D3 is a shockingly inadequate 400 IU.

If the government has the power to shut down the majority of small businesses in the country and make 30 million people jobless on an emergency basis, they should also immediately mandate an increase in the RDA of vitamin D3.

The US has spent $4 trillion on the pandemic so far. A bottle of vitamin D costs about five dollars at the low end. You can check my math here, but it looks like we could send something like 10,000 bottles of vitamin D to every man, woman, and child in the country and still have enough money left over to acquire a small nation-state.
