Sober Days: How SCRAM CAM Promotes Accountability…

For individuals on a journey to sobriety, accountability is integral to their success. This is especially true for those involved in the justice system, where proving abstinence is not just a personal goal but a legal requirement.

The SCRAM Continuous Alcohol Monitoring® (SCRAM CAM®) bracelet is a powerful tool in this process, helping clients achieve more Sober Days and build a foundation for long-term behavior change.

What are Sober Days? It’s more than just a buzzword; a Sober Day is a 24-hour period in which a monitored client has no confirmed consumption of alcohol and no confirmed attempt to tamper with the SCRAM CAM bracelet or circumvent testing. SCRAM CAM’s core benefit is its ability to maximize the number of these days.

About 1% of ingested alcohol is excreted through insensible perspiration. The device, worn on the ankle, automatically tests the wearer’s sweat for alcohol every 30 minutes. This continuous monitoring eliminates the “gaps” in supervision, removing the opportunity for clients to drink around scheduled tests. This constant, non-invasive testing method acts as both a deterrent and a powerful motivator, reinforcing the commitment to abstinence.

Sober Days: Real Results

The impact is clear in the numbers. SCRAM CAM boasts a remarkable track record, with data showing that more than 99% of all clients are completely sober and compliant every day they are monitored. Additionally:

Over one million clients have been monitored with SCRAM CAM since its inception in 2003
Over 26,000 clients are monitored with SCRAM CAM every day
SCRAM CAM bracelets across the world have performed over 5 billion alcohol tests
99.0% of the days clients are monitored with SCRAM CAM are Sober Days
For many, the SCRAM CAM bracelet becomes a “guardian angel” or a physical reminder of their goal, providing the structure and support needed to break the cycle of alcohol dependency and begin to rebuild their lives.

It’s not just about compliance for the courts—it’s about reclaiming personal health, repairing relationships, and building a foundation for a sober future

At the American Probation and Parole Association’s (APPA) 50th Annual Summer Training Institute, held in New York City, SCRAM Systems had the exciting opportunity to coordinate a fantastic event: the Community Corrections Chase, or the C3 Race.

This event was designed as a fun and interactive way to explore the city and some of its most iconic landmarks. The C3 Race blended technology, logistics, and teamwork into a dynamic experience that showcased both the spirit of the conference and the capabilities of a few SCRAM Systems products.

SCRAM Systems organized the C3 Race with a clear purpose in mind: to foster meaningful networking, create memorable moments for attendees, and demonstrate our technology in a real-world, engaging format. We wanted participants to not only enjoy the race but also experience firsthand how our tools can support communication, day-to-day efficiencies, and state-of-the-art location tracking.

Showcasing SCRAM Systems Technology

To bring the race to life, we leveraged two key SCRAM Systems technologies: SCRAM GPS® 9 Plus and the SCRAM TouchPoint® Client Engagement mobile app.

SCRAM GPS 9 Plus allowed participants to be tracked in real time, ensuring safety and accountability throughout the event. SCRAM GPS 9 Plus also demonstrated how continuous tracking can be accomplished even in “impaired” environments—such as dense city areas—showcasing the use of Wi-Fi points when GPS points were unavailable.

Meanwhile, TouchPoint served as the digital interface for racers—utilizing check-ins, clues and responses to questions via messaging, and document upload to effectively communicate with the command center and navigate the course.

All teams were tracked using location data points on both SCRAM GPS 9 Plus and the newly released TouchPoint Location Tracking feature, showcasing the option for a lower-risk, location tracking method via cellular phones. Together, these tools created a seamless experience.

Smarter Supervision Coming Together on Race Day

On race day, the energy at the starting line was electric. Teams were excited, competitive, and ready to explore. Along the route, participants encountered creative challenges and engaging stops that highlighted both the city and our technology.

At the command center, the SCRAM Systems team displayed all incoming data, including GPS analytics that provided real-time updates on each team’s movements and progress.

Participant engagement was a top priority. Each checkpoint was crafted to encourage interaction, problem-solving, and collaboration. Whether it was deciphering clues or completing challenges, every moment was immersive and rewarding.

The C3 Race was more than just a fun event—it was a live demonstration of how SCRAM Systems technology can be applied in dynamic, real-world scenarios. It reinforced the value of integrating tech into everyday operations and highlighted the importance of balancing logistics with user experience.

“I’m deeply grateful to APPA, all the participants, and the SCRAM Systems team members who made this event possible. As a Solutions Engineer, my role is to bridge the gap between technology and real-life experience—and the C3 Race was a perfect example of that mission in action. I’m already looking forward to future opportunities to showcase what SCRAM Systems technology can do, and to continue creating experiences that enhance community supervision through innovation.”

If you plan to spend time boating this summer, safety should always be at the helm. Operating a boat while impaired by alcohol or drugs dramatically increases the risk of accidents, injuries, and fatalities. In fact, the combination of sun, heat, motion, and alcohol can accelerate impairment.

Ensure everyone on board stays safe by choosing a sober operator when enjoying time on the water. 🚤
