I’ve been interpreting the world since before I even knew I was doing it.

My mother is hard of hearing. So from a young age, I instinctively became her translator, learning to read faces, tune into emotions, and communicate what others might miss. That shaped me. It gave me a sensitivity to people, to energy, to unspoken truths. It made me expressive, attentive, adaptable.

But what made her remarkable wasn’t just how she navigated her own silence. It was how she created space for me to be loud, to be me. While she modeled strength, structure, and consistency, she never clipped my wings. I was encouraged to explore, play, question everything, and express the fullness of who I am.

She didn’t just raise me. She revealed me.

So much of the woman I am today, the organized, accomplished, purpose-driven part and the barefoot in the grass, ideas at 3am, childlike wonder part, was born in the space my mother created with her love.

Her presence has always been both anchor and permission slip.
