Thanksgiving often holds mixed feelings, meanings, and memories. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or uncertain, know that those feelings are valid and you are not alone. Thanksgiving carries a history of violence committed through colonization and experienced by Indigenous people, something that we hold at the front of our minds. We approach this holiday with awareness and respect for Indigenous communities. Take care to honor your needs, boundaries, and resilience today.

It's What We're Eating Wednesday! πŸ˜„πŸ’š On Wednesdays, we ask questions like: "Why are there 3 tubs of onion dip in the fridge?" Or "Is that sushi in a cup?" Nevertheless, we love sharing our eats from the week as well as our spotlight food! 🍽 This week, we're highlighting asparagus. Roasted asparagus is a delicious side dish to chicken or salmon and is super simple to make!

We'd love to hear what your interesting food combo was this week! 🧐

Happy Wednesday πŸ’› The crew at Oak City had some pizza, chicken and broccoli, and sushi this week! We're also sharing some fun facts about cake, inspired by Erin's vanilla cake with strawberries πŸ°πŸ“ Cake is a great example of how food is ingrained as part of our culture and is a method of human connection.

- Royal icing got its name because it was featured on Queen Victoria's wedding cake. in 1840!
- Konafa is a cake eaten during Eid al-Fitr to celebrate new beginnings after fasting for Ramadan.
- "King cake," traditionally eaten during Mardi Gras, was brought to Louisiana through French settlers, where a small object is hidden in the cake. Whoever finds the hidden object is considered to be granted good luck!

Have a great week! 🌳🍽
