WORK IN PROGRESS πŸ’‘

In the last week and a half, we have added 3 brand new offices and a new lobby to Oak City Psychology, as well as had some office switches in the original space! Lots of furniture built, wall art hung, and trips to Home Goods later, and we are finally putting the finishing touches on each new space!

We can't wait to share the completed new spaces later this week πŸ‘€

Dr. Benton and Elizabeth got to work this week building furniture! Stay tuned ✨

Disordered eating behaviors can have a big impact on your life, even without an official eating disorder diagnosis. Disordered eating/ exercising behaviors are often normalized or even praised, making it difficult to recognize when your habits are causing distress.

Disordered eating habits put you at higher risk of developing an eating disorder. Reach out to those you trust or a mental health care provider if you need support around your eating disorder behaviors.

Oak City Psychology has appointments available with clinicians specializing in disordered eating and eating disorder recovery. DM us or send us an email to set up your free 15 minute consultation 🫢

Happy Wednesday! πŸ’› We hope you're enjoying the beautiful weather today! We're once again sharing some of what we ate this week πŸͺπŸŸπŸ— And we are sharing some fun facts about hamburgers πŸ”

πŸ” The first hamburger was introduced in the U.S. in 1904, but the first hamburger bun was made in 1916.
πŸ” There are almost 87,000 hamburger restaurants in the U.S.
πŸ” Hamburgers can be a great part of a meal, high in protein, rich in carbohydrates (which feed our brain!), and a source of vitamins and minerals! Yum!

It's What We're Eating Wednesday! 🌸 Today, we're talking ice cream 🍦 Ice cream often has a strong connection to events in our lives: summers, birthdays, or even first dates. Maybe for you, it's just delicious, and that's a good enough reason to eat some!

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? (Mine is NY Cheesecake from Bruster's!)

Happy Wednesday! 🍽 We missed you last week, but today we're back to share our food from the week and highlight a food item we've been loving, or in this case, a drink! β˜• πŸ₯
Although food provides our bodies nutrition and our minds a sense of fun, food also contributes to culture and the history of humans. Perhaps the best example of how food is a part of the world's history is tea!

β˜• After water, tea is the second most consumed drink in the world!
β˜• The term "high tea" originally was referring to the height of the table the tea was served on, not the fanciness of the affair!
β˜• Tea leaf reading is a centuries old practice of interpreting the position of tea leaves left at the bottom of the cup after drinking.

Happy Wednesday! The day of the week when we share what delicious meals we've been enjoying! 🍩 🍽 πŸ‡ This week, we're highlighting a food that tends to be controversial: olives! Whether you love them or hate them, check out a few fun facts:

- Black olives and green olives come from the same trees. Black olives are just the fully ripened version!
- Civilization has used olive oil for centuries for a multitude of purposes: lamps, medicine, and even makeup.
- Olives are rich in vitamins and iron!

Who here likes olives? πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

LIFE BETWEEN SESSIONS πŸ›‹ πŸ“– 🐾

Have you ever wondered what your therapist does when they're not sitting across from you? Erin Smith is sharing some of what she loves outside of therapy! She loves to read and collect books and do fun crafts, especially when her black cat, Cosmo, is curled by beside her. The miniature crafted book nook that sits on her book shelf is the perfect representation of this!
Thank you Erin for sharing πŸ’›

It's What We're Eating Wednesday! πŸ’› 🍽 Who else feels like Dr. Benton is having sushi just to be featured in the Wednesday post at this point πŸ€” Either way, we love it! Speaking of which, today we're talking takeout. Takeout gets such a bad rap. Diet culture tells us that eating food has to be earned by crafting elaborate meals, using expensive ingredients, or spending hours meal prepping each week. In reality, all food is food, and eating does not have to be earned. Having takeout is often convenient, inexpensive, and delicious!
We want to know what your favorite takeout is! We love having takeout pizza, Chinese, burgers, and sushi πŸ•πŸ”πŸ£

Happy What We're Eating Wednesday! We had lots of delicious meals this week and even enjoyed a cake made by our very own Dr. Urh πŸŽ‚πŸ° This week, we're focusing on sandwiches! Sandwiches come in all different shapes, sizes, and types, and we love all of them πŸ₯ͺπŸ” They can provide a quick and easy snack or may encompass more complex ingredients on a fun night cooking at home.

Here's the age old question... is a hot dog considered a sandwich? πŸ€”
