Labor happens in stages, and every experience is a little different. Here’s a simple breakdown:

1️⃣ Early Labor (Latent Phase):
• Contractions are mild and irregular
• Cervix begins to open (0–6 cm)
• This phase can last hours to days

2️⃣ Active Labor:
• Contractions become stronger, longer, and closer together, following the 5:1:1 pattern (contractions every 5 min, lasting a min, for an hour or more)
• Cervix dilates from 6–10 cm
• This is when most people head to the hospital

3️⃣ Delivery (Pushing Stage):
• Fully dilated (10 cm)
• Time to push and meet your baby 💕

4️⃣ Placenta Delivery:
• The placenta is delivered after baby
• Usually happens within 30 minutes

Every labor is unique! There’s no one right way for it to unfold. Our team is here to support you through every stage.

💭 What’s something you wish you knew before going into labor?

We’ll start:

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus—often on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or pelvic tissue.

This tissue responds to hormonal changes and can cause:
• Painful periods
• Pelvic pain (before, during, or after periods)
• Pain with s*x
• Heavy or irregular bleeding
• Fertility challenges

Endometriosis affects about 1 in 10 women, yet many experience long delays in diagnosis. If period pain is disrupting your life, it’s not “normal,” and help is available.

Thinking About Using a Menstrual Cup (like the DivaCup)?

Menstrual cups are a reusable period product made of medical-grade silicone that collect menstrual blood rather than absorb it.

Why some people love them:
• Can be worn up to 12 hours
• Reusable and eco-friendly
• No fragrances or bleaches
• Often cost-effective over time

Things to know:
• Proper insertion and removal matter
• Cleaning between uses is important
• There’s a learning curve at first
• They may not be ideal for everyone (especially with certain pelvic floor conditions)

If you’re curious whether a menstrual cup is a good option for you, we’re happy to talk through the pros and cons at your next visit. Call or text to get scheduled: 📞 919-781-6200
