Not only do 70% of people with Asthma and COPD go undiagnosed, but those that did get diagnosed and got treatment from a pulmonologist had much better outcomes that those that got basic care from their family doctor. It's time for primary care clinics to start offering PFTs so patients don't have to make an extra visit to the pulmonologist to get better outcomes.

Here’s how to tell if you’re one of them.

Exercise training is very beneficial to patients with COPD, and if started early enough, can improve outcomes greatly.

Under the guidance of their doctor, patients can monitor their lung function regularly once they get home using VitalFlo.

Starting exercise training early in a hospitalization for a COPD exacerbation led to improved exercise capacity and physical function at discharge, according to study results published in Respiratory Medicine.“Physiotherapists who work with patients who are admitted to hospital with an exacerb...

Advances in understanding and treating asthma and COPD are leading to better preventative treatments that can reduce irreversible lung damage, improve patient outcomes, and potentially allow for clinical remission in severe cases.

With VitalFlo, you can keep track of exacerbations and stay on top of your patient's lung health at every visit. Save your patients time and money, and keep everything in-house.

In just one asthma or COPD attack, irreversible changes to the tissue of the lungs can occur, effectively leaving them scarred

Undiagnosed COPD, asthma linked to worse quality of life, more health care use

Compared with healthy individuals, having undiagnosed COPD or asthma negatively impacted quality of life and led to higher health care usage, according to results published in American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.“The detection of undiagnosed COPD or asthma at an earlier....

New study looks at combining the Asthma control questionnaire (ACQ) and the clinical COPD questionnaire (CCQ) for patients that may have both diseases to reduce the overlap of questions and save time and effort.

VitalFlo supports several validated surveys and allows you to use custom survey questions and set frequency for your patients.

Symptoms of asthma and COPD often overlap, and both diseases can co-exist in one patient. The asthma control questionnaire (ACQ) and clinical COPD questionnaire (CCQ) were developed to assess disease burden in respectively asthma or COPD. This study explores the possibility of creating a new questio...

If approved, new reimbursement codes will be added in 2025 for remote patient monitoring that could incentivize expanding RPM in your practice. Good news for both patients and doctors!

New codes from the AMA could mean more RPM reimbursement by 2025

If the CPT Editorial Panel approves new changes and Medicare and private payers follow suit, providers that expand their remote patient monitoring programs to fit the new codes will gain the most benefits for their patients and clinics.

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who have depression/anxiety have significantly increased respiratory symptoms and exacerbation rates compared with other patients with COPD.

When targeting adverse outcomes, it is always important to treat the whole patient, including mental health.

Investigators characterized the clinical characteristics and exacerbation rates of patients with COPD who also had depression or anxiety.

COPD is important to control and manage both for its own sake and because of exacerbations can increase the risk of acute cardiovascular (CV) events:

This study of a newly diagnosed population of US patients with COPD found that the incidence of all-cause mortality and acute CV events increased following both moderate and severe COPD exacerbations for up to 2 years. Subsequent exacerbations further increased these risks. Patients living in rural neighborhoods and lower SES neighborhoods were at higher risk of a CV event and death following an exacerbation.

Exposure to PM2.5 or NO2 air pollution during early childhood may play a role in the development of childhood asthma, with higher risk among minoritized families living in densely populated communities characterized by fewer opportunities and resources.

VitalFlo has been an active partner with several research groups to study these impacts. Our partners at Stanford University, CU Boulder and UT Austin Dell Medical School are all actively using the VitalFloTRIALS platform in their studies of the impacts of wildfire particulate, indoor and outdoor air quality, and other environmental factors on respiratory outcomes.

Researchers examined the link between asthma risk and early life PM2.5 and NO2 exposure, and whether community-level characteristics modified the asthma risk.
