🦃 Turkey Donuts 🦃
🧡 place uncooked spaghetti in donut (or could use play doh as a base during play) - can also progress to not using a base, to make it more of a challenge
🧡 slide cheerios to create "feathers"
🧡 encourage a pincer grasp by having children "crab pinch" with thumb and index finger only
🧡improve translation skills by placing one cheerio in the palm of their hand and have them slide to finger tips and then back to palm, using only that hand
🧡 have fun!

Sensory Storytimes are welcoming, interactive programs designed for families with autistic children and/or those who have sensory needs. These storytimes are geared toward preschool aged children (3-5 years old); however, all ages are welcome to attend. Pre-registration required for this FREE event.

Handwriting is so important, but is not the most loved OT task. Simple modifications can turn a non-preferred task into a fun one!

Just add a multi-colored retractable pen!

📝 Provide color-coded key
📝 Red - tall letters, blue - short letters, green - letters that cross the line (I like to let the child choose and assign colors to the designated letter type.)
📝 Children often rush through handwriting tasks & switching between colors encourages them to slow down and think about each letter and how it should be formed.
📝 Alternating between writing position of pen and clicking to change colors encourages muscle memory to demonstrate & maintain age appropriate pencil grasp.
📝 Allow the child to choose the sentence. This is also a great way to build rapport with each child and facilitate conversations that interest them. 🩷
📝 To encourage practice and build on their home exercise program - children are offered to keep the pen.
📝 Additionaly, this child also used large, 3 lined paper for visual cues for letter sizing.
