More than one-third of workplace injuries happen during an employee’s first year on the job.

That’s a reminder that safety training can’t stop after initial onboarding.

Real jobsite safety is built through ongoing conversations, leadership in the field, reinforcement of expectations, and crews that stay engaged long after day one.

At ESR, we help companies create safety programs that stay active beyond orientation and build habits that strengthen safety culture every day.

Join the NAWIC Triangle Chapter of NC community for an important conversation around what safety really looks like on today’s jobsites.

ESR is proud to sponsor the upcoming Safety Month Panel Discussion on May 21st. We’re also excited to share that Julia Kunlo, President of ESR, will be speaking on the panel and contributing to the conversation around building stronger safety cultures across the construction industry.

We’re looking forward to a great discussion and the opportunity to connect with others who are committed to advancing safety in the construction industry.

Last week, the ESR team had the opportunity to attend the Steel Erectors Association of America Convention & Trade Show in Kansas City.

A major highlight of the week was celebrating our own Julia Kunlo, President of Evolution Safety Resources, as a 2026 SteelStrong Women in Construction Legacy Builder Award recipient. We’re incredibly proud of her leadership and impact within the construction safety industry.

You can watch Julia’s recognition here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ai-fUdr28Eo

We also enjoyed reconnecting with clients, partners, and friends from across the country while sharing ideas and conversations around safety and the future of the steel industry. Between the convention, great BBQ, a baseball game, and exploring Kansas City, it was a great week all around.

Thank you to SEAA for another outstanding event. We’re proud to support the people and companies helping build a safer steel industry every day.

Several ESR teammates took on the Spartan 10K in Fayetteville, completing 25 obstacles through mud, water, climbs, and everything in between.

Events like this reflect the kind of culture we’re proud of at ESR: hardworking people who challenge themselves, support each other, and know how to have fun as a team.

Whether it’s on a jobsite, in training, or tackling obstacles together outside of work, we believe strong teams are built through trust, grit, and shared experiences.

As part of Construction Safety Week, we’re participating in the National Safety Stand Down to Prevent Falls, a reminder that preparation and consistency are what keep crews safe.

A Safety Stand Down is an opportunity to pause work and have direct conversations about workplace safety. While many Stand Downs focus on fall hazards and fall prevention, they can also be used to discuss other jobsite risks, protective methods, company safety expectations, and concerns employees may see in the field.

This is a great week to gather your crews, hold a toolbox talk, review common hazards, and reinforce your company’s commitment to safety on every jobsite.

Strong safety cultures are built through communication, awareness, and taking the time to look out for one another.

ESR is a proud member of the Steel Erectors Association of America (SEAA), and we’re looking forward to attending the annual SEAA Convention & Trade Show in Kansas City this week.

Structural steel work remains one of the most hazardous sectors in construction, with falls continuing to be the leading cause of serious injuries on these job sites. It’s a strong reminder of why proactive planning, proper protection, and ongoing training matter every day.

That’s also why we’re grateful to work alongside so many outstanding partners in the steel industry. ESR is proud to support both fabricators and field crews across the country, helping teams strengthen their safety culture and protect what matters most, their people.

Who else will be there? And more importantly… who’s in for a baseball game while we’re in town? ⚾️

Construction Safety Week is a reminder that preventing serious injuries and fatalities (SIFs) starts long before work begins.

This year’s focus—Recognize. Respond. Respect.—provides a clear framework for identifying risk, taking action, and building a stronger safety culture on every jobsite.

Here’s how to start the conversation with your crew:

Recognize
• What high-energy hazards are present today?
• Where could conditions change and increase risk?

Respond
• What controls are in place before work begins?
• Can hazards be eliminated, reduced, or isolated?

Respect
• Are we following the plan as intended?
• Does everyone feel comfortable speaking up or stopping work?

Safety doesn’t come from reacting; it comes from planning, communication, and accountability at every level.

Follow along as we continue breaking this down throughout the week.
