Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2025-2030.
They are released every 5 years
My thoughts:
✅ I see online people crying in their soup over this 😩😞😢😭
✅ The new guidelines picture… I on the other hand , LOVE IT!😍
✅ I have been a dietitian for 30 years. I have seen a lot of changes and MISINFORMATION over the years!!
✅ As a young dietitian, I was taught the same old same old and had to unlearn some things. And have to admit some of the things I taught were wrong!
✅ I had to Challenge some of the things I was taught.
✅ And sadly learned that our medical and food recommendations are $$$ based …..
THE NEW PICTURE PYRAMID
✅ I see whole real food from Mother Nature which is what I encourage! I say eat the way your great great grandparents ate.. as much as you can!
✅ That means less PROCESSED FOOD! I Which is what the new recommendations are all about!
✅ I have read complaints about the emphasis on protein. Well I say hallelujah! Current recommendations are old and outdated! Upset about plant proteins? It’s in there. If you open the document and read the recommendations they encourage protein from animals and from plants, they weren’t left out. Beans are in the picture. Maybe they could have scooted the picture up a little bit …🤷🏻♀️
✅ Veggies vs protein? Well I see protein on the left at the top and veggies to the right… at the top! . I don’t see animal foods prioritized OVER veggies!
✅ The message is simple and they said it —EAT REAL FOOD
✅ I actually like that they did not put serving AMOUNTS on here. That becomes tedious and inaccurate because a 210 pound person needs a different amount of servings than a 130 pound person.
✅ This shows to prioritize real food from nature, prioritize protein AND veggies and have some fruits, healthy fats and a few whole grains
✅ The OLD OLD FOOD PYRAMID that has “grains” at the bottom did not differentiate between rice or cereal or bread or a “whole grains”. And it said 6-11 servings. Well 11 servings is =to 165 grams of carbs other would be like eating 11 pieces of bread in one day!! No typical adult needs that many carbs from grains!
