Attending the International Symposium on Osteoporosis in Washington DC. Very informative, loved meeting the vendors and what they offer.
✅ had the cutest display and the best tasting calcium chews made from whole real food
✅ Lots of little pearls. Low alkaline phosphatase (on almost all your blood tests) can indicate poor bone building and seen with foot and hand fractures…
✅ Type 2 diabetes associated with poor bone health
✅ Poor healing after joint replacement with vitamin D levels

Stomach pain can be very unpredictable and hard to determine the cause. One of the many reasons someone may have awful stomach pain that can last for hours is consuming pea protein. It can be found in many protein bars, drinks, baked goods etc. Read your label to see if it is there! This could be an easy fix! 👍. Some people just don’t digest it very well!

Homemade carrot cake for hubby’s birthday!🎂 I am not a big fan of baking or of sweets actually, but on this snowy day I made his favorite cake from scratch. Cooking this way is really not hard….
✅ Used gluten free flour
✅ Sweetener was maple syrup instead of sugar
✅ 2 cups shredded carrots, got our veggies! 🥕
✅ Icing was cream cheese,maple syrup & vanilla flavoring
✅ Icy mess outside cancelled our big family celebration but our doorbell rang and some great folks who live in our neighborhood and their 2 little kids came over to see us! 😉🥰

Made “blueberry donuts”. .. fun to experiment on a stay at home snow/sleet day.  The donut hole vanished when it baked…....

Made “blueberry donuts”. .. fun to experiment on a stay at home snow/sleet day. The donut hole vanished when it baked…. Figured it would. I played with the recipe
✅ 1 egg
✅ 1/2 cup almond flour
✅ 1/2 cup cottage cheese
✅ 1/2 cup blueberries
✅ 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
✅ drizzle of maple syrup
Low in carbs except for the maple syrup. High in protein ✅
✅ gluten free …it may be the way our American flour is made….,,,Not the gluten per se. More to talk about !

Super simple! I equate servings of rice, pasta, quinoa to pieces of bread. How many “pieces of bread” do you eat when you bar these grains?

Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2025-2030.
They are released every 5 years
My thoughts:
✅ I see online people crying in their soup over this 😩😞😢😭
✅ The new guidelines picture… I on the other hand , LOVE IT!😍
✅ I have been a dietitian for 30 years. I have seen a lot of changes and MISINFORMATION over the years!!
✅ As a young dietitian, I was taught the same old same old and had to unlearn some things. And have to admit some of the things I taught were wrong!
✅ I had to Challenge some of the things I was taught.
✅ And sadly learned that our medical and food recommendations are $$$ based …..

THE NEW PICTURE PYRAMID
✅ I see whole real food from Mother Nature which is what I encourage! I say eat the way your great great grandparents ate.. as much as you can!
✅ That means less PROCESSED FOOD! I Which is what the new recommendations are all about!
✅ I have read complaints about the emphasis on protein. Well I say hallelujah! Current recommendations are old and outdated! Upset about plant proteins? It’s in there. If you open the document and read the recommendations they encourage protein from animals and from plants, they weren’t left out. Beans are in the picture. Maybe they could have scooted the picture up a little bit …🤷🏻‍♀️
✅ Veggies vs protein? Well I see protein on the left at the top and veggies to the right… at the top! . I don’t see animal foods prioritized OVER veggies!
✅ The message is simple and they said it —EAT REAL FOOD
✅ I actually like that they did not put serving AMOUNTS on here. That becomes tedious and inaccurate because a 210 pound person needs a different amount of servings than a 130 pound person.
✅ This shows to prioritize real food from nature, prioritize protein AND veggies and have some fruits, healthy fats and a few whole grains
✅ The OLD OLD FOOD PYRAMID that has “grains” at the bottom did not differentiate between rice or cereal or bread or a “whole grains”. And it said 6-11 servings. Well 11 servings is =to 165 grams of carbs other would be like eating 11 pieces of bread in one day!! No typical adult needs that many carbs from grains!

Ever had your vitamins and minerals tested?

✅ It is like a hemoglobin A1c test … it measures your average blood sugar and her the last 3 months where blood glucose levels only tell you what it is at the moment blood was drawn
✅ This test will test all your vitamins. Minerals. Amino acids. Omega fats. Glutathione…
✅ Your body cannot operate optimally without the raw materials!
✅ Why could you be low? 🤷🏻‍♀️
✅ Genetics. Diet. Food supply. Ability to absorb it. Increased demands (stress, lots of exercise, limiting food intake ..)

Happy New Year! I just can’t shake the Southern tradition of eating a few black eyed peas and collard greens on New Year’s Day for good luck! We only eat a few bites now! As a kid, THIS was your dinner. Usually with dumplings in the collards which I hated. I used to drown each bowl of collards and black eyed peas with lots of ketchup! Do you eat these on New Year’s Day?
