That implant you invested in? 👀 It can fail if you’re not watching for this…

Peri-implantitis is like gum disease around a dental implant 🦷 It starts with plaque buildup, leads to inflammation, and over time can cause bone loss around the implant.

Little known fact 👇
Unlike natural teeth, implants don’t have a protective ligament—so infections can spread faster before you even feel it.

The tricky part? It often starts quietly.

🚩 Red or tender gums around the implant
🚩 Bleeding when brushing or flossing
🚩 Swelling or discomfort

If caught early, it’s manageable. If ignored, it can lead to implant failure.

Higher risk if you:
• Have a history of gum disease
• Smoke or v**e
• Have conditions like diabetes
• Skip regular cleanings or home care

The good news 👇
Prevention is simple and powerful:
✔️ Brush and floss daily (yes—even around implants)
✔️ Keep up with routine hygiene visits
✔️ Don’t ignore bleeding or inflammation

You’ve made an investment in your smile—protect it 💪

If something feels off, don’t wait. Early treatment makes all the difference.

That bump in your mouth isn’t always “nothing” 👀🦷

Oral fibromas are common, benign growths—but they’re your body’s response to chronic irritation, and they won’t go away on their own.

Here’s a quick breakdown ⬇️

• What is it?
A firm, smooth lump made of connective (fibrous) tissue

• What causes it?
Repeated trauma like cheek biting, friction from dental appliances, or irritation in the mouth

• What does it look like?
Pink to whitish, painless, and often found on the cheeks, tongue, gums, or lips

• Why remove it?
It can grow, become bothersome, and should be evaluated to rule out anything more serious

• How do we treat it?
Laser removal ✨ — minimally invasive, precise, often no sutures, faster healing, and less discomfort

At North Raleigh Periodontics & Implant Center, we combine advanced technology with expert care to keep you comfortable and confident in your treatment 🙌

Noticed a bump that won’t go away? Don’t wait—early evaluation is key 🔑

🚨 This could save your life… and most people don’t even know it 🚨

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month 👄🩺 — and it’s time to bring awareness to something that often goes unnoticed until it’s too late.

Each year, nearly 46,000 Americans are diagnosed with oral cancer… and someone loses their life to it every single hour ⏳

The good news? Early detection can make all the difference.

So what exactly is oral cancer?
It’s an abnormal growth of cells in the mouth, lips, tongue, or throat — and it can develop quietly, often without pain in the early stages.

🚩 Major risk factors to know:
• To***co use (including va**ng) 🚬
• Alcohol consumption 🍷
• HPV
• Chronic irritation in the mouth

⚠️ Warning signs you should never ignore:
• A sore that doesn’t heal
• Lumps or thickened areas
• Persistent hoarseness
• Swelling or difficulty swallowing

At North Raleigh Periodontics & Implant Center, we take early detection seriously 💙
We use Oral ID technology 💡 to help identify abnormal tissue early — often before it’s visible during a standard exam.

Even more important 👇
An oral cancer screening is performed at every hygiene appointment, because catching something early can truly save your life.

Prevention starts with simple, everyday habits:
✔️ Avoid to***co and limit alcohol
✔️ Maintain a healthy, balanced diet 🥦
✔️ Manage stress
✔️ Stay consistent with your dental visits

Your routine dental visit is about so much more than just your teeth — it’s a critical step in protecting your overall health.

Don’t wait for symptoms. Stay proactive, stay informed, and make your health a priority this month and beyond 💙

What if your mouth was warning you about an autoimmune disease before the rest of your body? 👀🦷

Your oral health can reveal early signs of systemic conditions like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriasis, Type 1 Diabetes, Graves’ Disease, and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis — sometimes before a diagnosis is ever made.

Here’s what we’re looking for during your visit 👇

🦷 Gum inflammation and bone loss
→ Driven by an exaggerated immune response and chronic inflammation

💧 Dry mouth (xerostomia)
→ Increases risk for cavities, infections, and discomfort

🦠 Oral fungal infections (candidiasis)
→ More common when the immune system is compromised

🔥 Burning mouth or changes in taste
→ Often linked to endocrine and autoimmune conditions

😣 Frequent canker sores
→ Can appear more often and be slower to heal

👅 Geographic or fissured tongue
→ Seen more commonly in conditions like psoriasis

Why this matters ⬇️
Autoimmune diseases affect millions of people, and inflammation doesn’t stay in one place. It can directly impact your gums, healing ability, and overall oral health.

For example 👇
➡️ Rheumatoid Arthritis can accelerate periodontal breakdown
➡️ Type 1 Diabetes can increase infection risk and delay healing
➡️ Psoriasis may show up as changes on the tongue

At North Raleigh Periodontics & Implant Center, we look beyond your smile because your mouth is connected to your whole body 🦷✨

If something feels off, don’t ignore it. Your mouth might be telling you more than you think 💬

What your gums look like beneath the surface matters more than you think 🦷👀

This before and after x-ray shows how scaling and root planing can make a real difference in periodontal health at North Raleigh Periodontics & Implant Center ✨

Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical treatment used to manage gum disease and protect the foundation of your teeth 💗
Unlike a regular cleaning, it targets buildup deep below the gumline where damage often begins

Here’s what’s happening 👇
Scaling removes plaque and hardened calculus from above and below the gums 🧼
Root planing smooths the root surfaces to help the gums heal and reattach 🤍
Local anesthetic keeps the procedure comfortable, and treatment is typically completed in 2–3 visits 😊

What you’re seeing in this x-ray 👇
A cleaner root surface
Reduced buildup beneath the gums
Improved conditions for gum healing and stability ✨

Why it matters 👇
Healthier gums and less inflammation
Prevention of further bone and attachment loss
A stronger, more stable smile long-term 🦷

After treatment, we’ll guide you with a personalized home care routine and may recommend antibiotics to help eliminate remaining bacteria 🪥

We recently hosted a powerful CE course right here at North Raleigh Periodontics and Implant Center 🦷✨ in partnership with the North Carolina Dental Hygienists' Association (Component 4)—and it left a lasting impact.

Led by Amanda Zubricki, a hygienist who is deaf, this experience gave our team firsthand insight into the realities of hearing loss 💬❤️. Through interactive exercises, we heard speech at different levels of impairment—and that final stage? Completely muffled. It was eye-opening in the most important way.

Her story of navigating dentistry while facing discrimination—and showing us how we can better connect with and care for our patients—was incredibly inspiring 🙌

We’re so grateful for our hygienists who continue to learn, grow, and show up for experiences like this through the NCDHA. Their dedication to continuing education means more compassionate, informed care for every patient we serve 💙

Huge thank you to BioGaia for sponsoring and to Sassool for the amazing spread 🥗🍴

And we’re just getting started… 👀
Join us in May for our next CE event:
Gums, Grit, and Growth: Next-Level Periodontal Care 🦷✨ Featuring our very own hygienists, Brittney and Susan, with a hands-on Airflow workshop!

Learning never stops—and we wouldn’t have it any other way 💫

From pasta to purpose 🍝✨ this night was about so much more than great food…

Our amazing hygienist Susan hosted a hands-on Italian cooking class to raise funds for Wake Smiles ❤️ — a nonprofit dedicated to providing dental care for underserved members of our community.

Alongside her son Stephen, Susan led guests through an unforgettable evening of homemade limoncello and spritz 🍋, fresh gnocchi, tomato basil and brown butter sage sauces, bruschetta, and pistachio ice cream 🤌🍨 — all while bringing people together for a powerful cause.

As a board member of Wake Smiles, Susan works alongside local specialists to expand access to care, and thanks to efforts like this, they’re already 2/3 of the way toward their $100K goal 🎯 to add two new treatment rooms and open Saturdays to serve even more patients in need.

We’re proud to have supported this meaningful initiative and to play a small part in the impact being made in our community 💙

Follow along, share this post, and help us spread the word — every bit of awareness helps change a smile!

Metal or ceramic dental implants… which one is right for your smile? 🤔🦷

Many patients are surprised to learn that dental implants come in different materials. At North Raleigh Periodontics and Implant Center, we often talk with patients about two main options: titanium implants and zirconia (ceramic) implants.

Titanium implants 🦷
Titanium has been the gold standard in implant dentistry for decades. It’s extremely strong, highly researched, and has a long track record of success. Many patients do very well with titanium implants and they remain a reliable, proven choice for replacing missing teeth.

Zirconia implants 🦷✨
Zirconia implants, like the Pearl ceramic implant system, are a newer metal-free alternative made from ceramic.

Why some patients choose zirconia:

🤍 Metal-free option for patients who prefer holistic or ceramic dentistry
🤍 White color that blends beautifully with teeth and gums, especially in the front of the mouth
🤍 Extremely biocompatible with gum tissue
🤍 Plaque may accumulate less easily on the surface
🤍 May lead to less peri-implant inflammation in some patients

Titanium and zirconia implants are both excellent options. The best choice depends on things like:

🦷 Location of the missing tooth
🦷 Your gum health
🦷 Aesthetic goals
🦷 Personal preferences about materials

Every smile is different, and choosing the right dental implant starts with a personalized evaluation.

If you're considering dental implants and want to learn whether zirconia or titanium implants may be best for you, we’d love to help guide you through your options. 😊
