Onycholysis is simply the plate not attached to the nail bed. Often this condition allows for debris and excess skin to get trapped under the nail plate, which can cause further "lifting" from the nail bed.

Today The Traveling Pedicurist had the pleasure of meeting a retired gentleman from Ukraine/Rssian territory. He was asked how to say how his feet felt in his native language....and this is what it sounded like...

The Traveling Pedicurist has serviced people from all over the world residing in North Carolina to include natives of Japan, Czechoslovakia, Africa, China, Israel, India, Russia, Jamaica....and the list goes on....

All cultures are unique and should be appreciated!

This was a new client serviced today in Smithfield, North Carolina. The client had not been seen in 3-years for any type of footcare service. The client was referred to The Traveling Pedicurist by Gentiva Hospice. We are fortunate to have a valuable partnership with various hospice and rehab centers in the state of North Carolina who refer us to their clients.

For this client, we pulled out the big guns--aka-- (e-file) 😂......and got busy.

For maintenance the client will be applying his Antifungal Topicals daily and making another appointment with The Traveling Pedicurist in 3-months.

Metaphorically speaking....

You have a second heart – and it lives in your calves.

Your body has a hidden circulatory booster, and it’s located in your lower legs. It’s called the soleus muscle, and it acts like a “second heart,” pumping blood from your legs back up toward your chest. This helps your actual heart overcome gravity and keep circulation flowing.

But here’s the important part: this second heart only works when you move.

If you sit or stand still for too long, blood can start to pool in your legs. Over time, this can lead to swelling, varicose veins, or even serious blood clots, according to experts at the Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic.

The solution is simple: keep moving. A short walk every hour is enough to activate your calf pump. Even small actions like standing up, stretching, or doing toe raises can help. If you’re dealing with chronic swelling, elevating your legs or using compression socks can provide relief – but consistent movement is the real key.

Even more interesting? Some scientists are exploring how soleus-focused movements (like seated heel raises) can help regulate blood sugar and improve metabolism – meaning this second heart might have benefits beyond circulation.

So whether you’re pacing the room or just lifting your heels at your desk, remember: you’re not just moving your legs – you’re keeping your second heart beating strong.

Just an FYI---

We have eliminated gel polish application on the toes from our menu. However, we will still offer gel polish on the fingernails. No worries, we have "matching" gel and polish sets. For instance, if you want your Manicure gel polish to match your toenail color---we have you covered!

Reasons we no longer offer gel polish on toes:

🦶Compromises already existing fungal issues
🦶Dehydrates the toenail beds
🦶More difficult to remove from toes
🦶Can harbor moisture and CAUSE bacteria/fungal issues

Our philosophy is healthy nailcare and this is what we specialize in.

Did you know that our AntiFungal Oil can also be used simply as a preventative foot moisturizer. It's great for athletes or anyone working in environments where the feet are constantly in workbooks for long hours like construction workers or military personnel.

It works and it smells delightful...🦶
