What's in a name?
Three Oaks Behavioral Health & Wellness. "Three": chosen to represent the three foundational concepts of therapy: ACCEPTANCE, BALANCE and CHANGE. "Oaks": chosen to represent Raleigh, NC (home to Three Oaks! and the City of Oaks) as well as for the deep symbolism of strength, growth, persistence, and wisdom associated with the majestic Oak tree. Elements that we all have within us. "Behavioral Health": much of the orientation of Three Oaks centers on concepts of non-judgment and evaluating behaviors as either helpful or unhelpful based on a client's expressed goals. By targeting behaviors as manifestations of thoughts and feelings, we can experience significant change and relief in our lives almost immediately. "Wellness": chosen to represent the encompassing nature of therapy. Wellness is not about one element of us- it is about ALL elements of us; mental, physical, spiritual, emotional. We are all made up of many parts. Often, life circumstance, opportunity, experience, early relationships, etc. play into which parts of us get lots of attention, and which parts lie dormant, waiting to be rediscovered. “Balance” is collecting all of our parts, seeing them, recognizing their purpose in our lives and utilizing each of them to achieve the fullness of our whole self. Three Oaks encourages a multifaceted approach to treatment, calling on traditional and non-traditional treatment options to support the efforts and needs of each individual. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Individual therapy is a safe place to establish strong rapport and be authentically you- no fear of judgment or consequence. Individual therapy is a wonderful space to brainstorm new ideas, weigh options before making a large decision, explore conflicts of self- "I feel trapped", "This isn't the life I pictured for myself", "What is my purpose?", "Why don't I feel happy?"- and learn how your thoughts and patterns of thinking impact your feelings and subsequent behaviors- a pivotal concept that underlies acceptance and change. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence based practice that allows you to reduce suffering and improve your quality of life by teaching and coaching skills of mindfulness (non-judgmentally present), emotion regulation (regaining control of feelings and moods), distress tolerance (coping through difficult situations) and interpersonal effectiveness (creating and maintaining relationships).
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence based treatment that uses what we know about neuroscience and the way the brain works to effectively and humanely treat trauma, safety and attachment concerns. The process of EMDR allows you to identify meaningful and powerful memories that are stored in the limbic system and simultaneously keep your “logic brain” engaged. This engagement allows dysfunctionally stored memories to be “moved” and stored differently in the brain, releasing/removing the emotional charge or somatic (body!) impact of the memory.
Three Oaks Behavioral Health & Wellness is dedicated to providing research supported treatment options. We believe in creating treatment plans rooted in collaboration, creativity and responsiveness in order to ensure an authentic and unique therapeutic experience designed to meet your individual needs. We look forward to our work together! "Continuity gives us roots; change gives us branches, letting us stretch and grow and reach new heights." -Pauline R. Kezer
