Today was a day of gratitude and celebration at Waltonwood Lead Mine.

We held our first Annual Associate Holiday Party, and it was a beautiful opportunity to honor the exceptional team who brings our community to life each day. Our team enjoyed an elegant menu curated by Chef Rob, featuring artful charcuterie, pasta, and caprese chicken, followed by exquisite holiday desserts created by our pastry chef, Maria.

The afternoon was rounded out with festive raffle prizes and, adding an extra touch of magic, a special visit from Santa himself! We loved celebrating our associates and the dedication, passion, and excellence they bring to Waltonwood Lead Mine.

This Thanksgiving, we’re especially grateful for the incredible associates who make Waltonwood Lead Mine feel like home every single day.

To show our appreciation, we invited our team to truly relax this holiday and “let us provide the sides”. Our Executive Chef and Culinary Supervisor put their own creative spin on classic Thanksgiving favorites crafting beautiful dishes for every associate to take home and share with their families.

A Sweet Thank You to The Cupcake Shoppe BAKERY!

As we’ve prepared to open the doors of Waltonwood Lead Mine, we’ve had the pleasure of partnering with The Cupcake Shoppe in Raleigh for our sweet treats during tours, business development visits, and prospective resident events.

Now that our community has a culinary team in place, our very own pastry chef will be taking the reins and baking up fresh treats at Waltonwood each day!

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to The Cupcake Shoppe for adding an extra touch of sweetness to our journey. Their delicious confections helped us make a wonderful first impression, and we’re so grateful!

Today, our Resident Care Manager, Larie had the pleasure of presenting to members of Carolina Arbors about blood pressure. We believe that Heart Health is an important topic for wellness at every age!

Guests enjoyed homemade trail mix and seasonal infused water crafted by Chef Rob, all while learning valuable tips from our friends at Legacy Healthcare Services, Inc., who co-sponsored the event with us. Together, we shared great advice for keeping your heart healthy and staying active through the colder months.

Our leadership team is officially complete! We’re thrilled to introduce the final member of our Waltonwood Lead Mine department head team, Miles Wesley, our Memory Care Wellness Coordinator!

Miles is brand new to the team but already brings a big heart and genuine passion for serving seniors. He shares, “I love working with seniors. They have a wealth of knowledge from a lifetime spent living and loving their family. I want to give to them the same selfless service that they gave their families.” As our community prepares to open, Miles is most excited to meet residents and their families, and to make Waltonwood Lead Mine feel like home from the very first day. He defines great care as person-centered care tailored to each resident’s preferences, ensuring everyone feels seen and valued.

When he’s not at work, Miles enjoys playing keyboard and singing, as well as spending time with his wife and daughter. Miles says what makes Waltonwood Lead Mine special is the strong bond our team shares: “We all get along great and truly enjoy being around each other.”

We’re so excited to have Miles on board as we prepare to open our doors and bring our vision of exceptional memory care to life!

We had such a wonderful time at our Sip and Paint Networking Event, co-hosted by Waltonwood Lead Mine and Waltonwood Lake Boone! It was an evening filled with creativity, conversation, and delicious food.

Chef Rob impressed everyone with a spread that included freshly made tiramisu, charred vegetables, house-baked focaccia, caramelized onion dip, and a beautiful charcuterie display, all from scratch!

A special thank you to Ellen Jones, our Waltonwood Compliance Nurse, for leading the painting class and guiding us through an inspiring and creative session.

It’s always a pleasure connecting with local professionals and building relationships that strengthen our senior living community. Cheers to more shared moments ahead!

Meet Christina Ryerson, our Assisted Living Life Enrichment Manager at Waltonwood Lead Mine!

With nearly three years of experience with Waltonwood, Christina brings passion, originality, and heart to everything she does. Each day begins with our vibrant calendar of programs, and her mission is simple: to bring about meaningful moments filled with purpose, connection, and joy. “I believe every stage of life deserves dignity, laughter, and love,” Christina shares. “True care goes beyond meeting physical needs. It’s about honoring each resident’s story and nurturing their emotional and social well-being.”

As Waltonwood Lead Mine prepares to open, Christina is most excited to introduce engaging and purposeful programming that connects residents to the greater community. From exploring innovative activities like AI workshops to planning unforgettable life celebrations, her focus is on helping every resident feel valued, inspired, and right at home. Fun Fact! While Christina was a Life Enrichment Manager at Waltonwood Lake Boone, she once planned a spontaneous and beautifully executed courtyard wedding for a family in need of a special moment.

Outside of work, Christina enjoys traveling (including three solo backpacking trips!), creating jewelry for her Etsy shop, and decorating her first home. Her creativity and compassion shine through in everything she does. We can’t wait for residents and families to experience Christina’s energy and heart for life enrichment at Waltonwood Lead Mine!

Please join us in welcoming Chef Robert Stephan to Waltonwood Lead Mine as our Culinary Service Manager! Chef Rob has been a part of our team for just over a month and has already shown us that he is truly a master of his craft. At Waltonwood Lead Mine, Chef Rob will lead both the front and back of house dining operations, mentor and guide his team on best practices for customer service and ensure that our culinary program is nothing short of exceptional.

With a passion for making a difference in people’s lives, Robert is thrilled to be part of a community where residents and employees come together and create something special. He looks forward to building a strong team, creating memorable dining experiences, and even collaborating with residents in our gardening program to grow fresh herbs and produce for our menus.

Outside of the kitchen, Robert enjoys fishing, relaxing at the beach, woodworking, and airbrushing. One of his proudest professional achievements was having the honor of cooking at the James Beard House in New York City.
