You may have already heard of Dr. Stacey Blyth! She's serving on the NCAFP Board of Directors while also working as the Medical Director of Primary Care at LeBauer HealthCare and Medical Co-Director of Primary Care at Cone Health. When it comes to leadership in North Carolina Family Medicine, Dr. Blyth is a workhorse and a champion. That's why we're glad to have her on the NCAFP Board!

We can't fully enjoy our CME events without all the great NCAFP members who attend! Thank you to everyone who joined us at last month's CME events. You are the physicians we are lucky to see and eager to serve. You are also the statewide network of colleagues and friends that support Family Medicine in North Carolina and beyond. Plus, you all are too much fun!

Last weekend, NCAFP members joined together to prepare the future skills and pathways of Family Medicine in Raleigh! On Friday, NC Family Medicine residency leaders attended the 2026 Family Academic Summit, and on Saturday morning, medical students and representatives from most of the NC Family Medicine Residency programs attended the 2026 Family Medicine Day in the same venue. At both events, attendees enjoyed the learning and the company!

Last week, NCAFP Past President Dr. Tamieka Howell gave a terrific lecture at the statewide HOSA Leadership Conference, “Family Medicine. One Doctor. A Lifetime of Impact.” We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with middle and high school students from across the state and to help HOSA celebrate its 50th Anniversary in NC!

One of the best parts of NCAFP events (in addition to the non-stop CME and learning) is how our members reconnect with each other by attending them.​
Many of our events have run for years and years. That means that member physicians can attend them for years and years, making each one like a mini reunion with their friends. Members get to have a close-knit network of fellow physicians around the state, and NCAFP events are where they meet year after year!

We're glad for his years of experienced insight as we gather attendees to explore existingand proposed workforce policies that impact the preparation of future family physicians.Preparing future family physicians is the endgame of the Academic Summit, and thatincludes the right advocacy to make sure they are paid and supported well! NCAFP member Dr. Robert Lane received the Order of the Longleaf Pine last month! The award isthe state's highest honor, and Dr. Lane well deserves it for his decades of care in Hertford, NC.
Dr. Lane opened Coastal Carolina Family Practice, his own practice, in the mid-1980s and has served generations of patients there. Dr. Lane stated, "In retrospect of my life and my chosen profession, I can say without reservation that I wouldn't change a thing. All these years caring for families and taking care of our community have made my life and my practice of medicine complete.” Congratulations to Dr. Lane!
