January motivation is high. The holiday break is over, spring race goals are calling, and you’re ready to jump back into training. You feel good… but making these 3 common mistakes can lead to setbacks in your training.
Here are some of the most preventable causes of injury we see runners make each year:
🏃♂️ Increasing mileage too fast
Jumping straight back to pre-holiday mileage can overload tissues that aren’t fully reconditioned yet. Gradual progress now prevents forced time off later.
🏋️♀️ Skipping an active warm-up
Cold muscles = higher injury risk. A few minutes of targeted muscle activation can make a big difference in how your body handles the run.
⚠️ Ignoring early aches and pains
That “minor” tightness or discomfort during or after a run is often your body pointing out a muscular imbalance or issue with running form. Addressing it early can stop a small issue from becoming a training setback.
