We often think we can’t do something if we’re scared, as if courage is reserved for those who feel no fear when taking the leap. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Fear, doubt, and uncertainty are universal. The key isn’t waiting for the fear to disappear—it’s about taking action despite it. Doing it scared is just as brave.

You are not defined your mistakes; however, you are defined by what you do afterwards. Do you take accountability? Or brush the impact off? Do you do the work to not make the same mistakes twice? Or do you keep repeating patterns? Do you do the work of making amends? Or do you sit complacent? What you do in the aftermath of a mistake is up to you, and it is much more deciding than the mistake itself.

Often times we fall into the trap of black and white thinking, when most things in life are various shades of gray. Let’s take parenting styles and child behavior for an example. People often want to label parents as either "good" or "bad" based on a child's behavior, assuming that strict rules or perfect parenting will guarantee well-behaved kids. In reality, children's behavior is shaped by a complex mix of personality, neurodiversity, family dynamics, and external factors like peer influence or trauma, making it impossible to judge parenting in simple black-and-white terms. There is plenty of room for the complexities of the human experience to exist, and allowing room for both good and bad ultimately allows us to be kinder to ourselves. It gives us space to do our best, but room to fail and make mistakes, yet still continue.

In what ways are you reminding yourself that ’the gray is okay’?

Embrace every part of who you are—because those meant to be in your life will love you for it. But remember, embracing yourself also means taking responsibility for your actions and being open to growth. True self-love is finding the balance between authenticity and accountability.

You do not have to be perfect to be loved. Think of one or two people you love Do you love them because they are perfect? Or because they have never made a mistake in their life? Probably not. Do you love them because of who they are, and how they show up after mistakes? Probably. Remember that you deserve the same understanding and grace - you are not an exception to this principle.

Set an alarm for each day this week, at the same time each day, and when it goes off, go into the bathroom, look in the mirror, and say to yourself, “I do not have to be perfect to be loved. I am lovable as I am. My humanness makes me lovable.”

Sometimes self-care is taking a bubble bath, and sometimes it’s doing the task on your to-do list you’ve been putting off for far too long. Social media tends to glamorize what ’self-care’ means, and negates the less aesthetic, but necessary, aspects of it. What is one less popular act of self-care you are doing this week to love and show up for yourself?
