This year, we had the pleasure of presenting our Harm Reduction Hero Award to Chase Holleman. As the former Harm Reduction Lead with SAMHSA and now North Carolina’s State Opioid Response (SOR) Project Lead, this award could not be more perfectly aligned with who Chase is and the impact he continues to make.

There are truly so many things we could say about Chase. His heart for harm reduction, his unwavering dedication to community, and his ability to bridge lived experience with policy work have made him a source of hope in every space he enters. He carries deep gratitude for the people, partners, and communities who shaped his journey, and it shows in everything he does.

Chase often speaks about the privilege of uplifting the unsung heroes of harm reduction, connecting their lifesaving work with federal leadership to ensure they are seen, valued, and heard. The emotion and sincerity he brings to that mission reflect exactly who he is: someone who leads with compassion, humility, and fierce advocacy for those too often overlooked.
Congratulations again, Chase. We’re honored to celebrate you.

This year, we were so proud to honor Erin Jamieson Day as our Prevention Pioneer Award recipient. Erin has spent 15 years pouring her heart into preventing substance use disorders and helping communities build stronger, healthier foundations. With over a decade of leading community coalitions, coaching others, and offering hands-on support, her impact reaches far beyond her job description.

As a Certified Prevention Specialist, Recovery Coach, and someone trained in racial equity work, Erin brings both skill and deep compassion to everything she does. She serves on several boards, including the NC Prevention Providers Association and Wilson community boards, because she believes in showing up where she’s needed most.

What makes Erin truly special is the personal heart behind her advocacy. As a recovery ally who has supported a loved one through substance use challenges, she understands the system not just professionally, but personally. Congratulations again, Erin. Thank you for the kindness, dedication, and hope you bring to your community.

This year, we had the honor of presenting one of our newest awards, the Bob Goodale Splendid Torch Award, to someone who has played a profound role in shaping the heart of our organization: Kurtis Taylor.

Recognizing Kurtis in this way meant so much to all of us. We have witnessed firsthand the passion, transparency, and bold vision he poured into the Alcohol/Drug Council of North Carolina during his time as Executive Director. His leadership left an imprint on our mission, our team, and the communities we serve.

Today, in his role as Executive Director of the Bob Barker Foundation, Kurtis continues to embody that same light. He works tirelessly to support organizations across the nation in reducing recidivism, breaking down stigma, and advocating fiercely for individuals navigating reentry and justice involvement. His voice, his compassion, and his dedication remain unwavering.

We are incredibly proud of Kurtis—of where he has been, where he stands, and where he continues to lead. Honoring him with this award was not only a recognition of his work but also a celebration of the impact he has had on all of us and the people we serve.
