Bob and Barb Whiteman were 2 of our brave first members, signing agreements in early March of this year. They've provided feedback and insight as our membership has grown and as we continue to develop "Best Practices" to ensure our Members receive the highest quality services and support.
We recently asked the Whitemans to share what drove their decision to join ThriveMore at Home -
"When we first heard about Thrivemore at Home, we immediately knew that we should check it out. As most people our age, we recognized that we needed to have a plan for our care as we aged. We had looked at several options such as moving close to one of our children or into a CCRC. We investigated several of these establishments in the Raleigh Area and, in fact, were on the “Wait List” of a couple of them. The underlying problem with any of these options was that we would be leaving our home and the freedom we enjoyed by living there.
We knew that, although our sons would be glad to help care for us, that managing that care from a distance would be very difficult - a lesson we learned from personal experience when caring for our parents.
We therefore looked at what the Thrivemore at Home Plan offered, considered what it could do for us, and decided that we liked the plan and the people, so we signed up and feel very good about our decision."
Thank you, Bob and Barb, for trusting us with your future care needs - you've both been wonderful to work with!

Stan and Kay Taylor love adventure - so much so that they were brave enough to become our FIRST members back in January of this year! The Taylors have been gracious as they worked with us to establish membership systems and "make straight pathways" for those that have followed!
When we discussed their decision to "bravely go where no man had previously gone", they replied -
"We believe that we will be both physically and emotionally safer and happier aging in our own home with a good plan for getting whatever help we may need there than we could ever be in a traditional senior living facility. We also know that if our opinion changes as we age, ThriveMore at Home will be there to help get us into the best possible facility based on our needs. The relationship that is already developing with the ThriveMore at Home staff has already been beneficial to us and gives us confidence that it will continue to be."
Thank you, Kay and Stan, for being brave enough to be our first members - we look forward to many healthy, happy years with you both!

One of the benefits of our program is a complete Aging in Place home assessment using Universal Design as part of developing our members' Comprehensive Wellness Plan. During a recent home assessment for new members, our team suggested installing a grab bar in the shower and purchasing a fire extinguisher for the kitchen.
Our members addressed both quickly - we're impressed!!

Sandi Karlson joined our program this week! Ms. Karlson attended a presentation back in January of this year and then we had the pleasure of meeting with her and her family in her lovely Carolina Preserve home later that month.
We asked Sandi to share a bit of her well-traveled background, as well as why she decided to join our program -
"Most of my life, I lived in the Philadelphia suburbs. In 2020, I moved to North Carolina to be close to my younger son and his family, which has been a joy and a blessing to us all. My Ohio son's family loves to visit North Carolina, so I get to see them also. It is a relief to know that as I age, I can continue living in my home but will not have to become a burden to my sons and daughters-in-law. My whole family love my house, and are pleased to think that I'll be able to enjoy more years without giving it up.
For most of my work life, I was an elementary or middle school art teacher. I loved teaching such a happy subject, especially when working with photography. After I left the classroom, I became a travel consultant. What fun to actually visit places that I'd only seen in images or heard about from others! I even got to blend my two careers, as I realized that I was "educating" my clients so they'd have a successful adventure. [Plus, I got to take hundreds of photos in new places!]
Welcome HOME, Sandi!

Meet our members, David and Sue Weiss!! The picture below is from their 54th wedding anniversary celebration! The Weisses shared why they chose to join the program -
"We live in a 55+ community that has the amenities we enjoy (indoor pool, fitness center, etc.). We did not want to be in the position of needing home services and having to start the search from scratch. Thrivemore at Home will provide the support we will eventually need at a cost that is comparable to a residential active adult or continuing care community while allowing us to continue to enjoy our own home."
David and Sue also shared their sweet story with our team -
"Sue and I met as lifeguards/counselors at a summer camp. Our children both swam and our son was a finalist at the 1997 US Olympic Trials. David still swims a mile three times a week and walks a few miles three times a week. We hope to maintain our lifestyle as long as possible. Thrivemore at Home will help us do that."

Sam and Faye Shaffer were a couple of our early members and enjoyed 10% off their one-time Membership Fee as a result! When asked why they chose ThriveMore at Home, they replied -
"We chose to become members of ThriveMore at Home because we just lost a dear family member. We were able to assist her in remaining in her home as long as it was safe.
It made us aware that as we age, we will want assistance to allow us to remain in our home as long as possible. Being a member we can call on them to assist us and our family through the aging process. Membership will help us thrive at home."
Sam and Faye had completed much of the recommended aging in place renovations to their home that will support aging in place before applying, so it was clear to our team they are perfect for the program!

We welcome our newest members - Ed and Pam Harris! When asked why they chose ThriveMore at Home, they responded -
"Our first step in planning for care in our retirement, was buying long-term care insurance at age 59 to partially cover care at home or in a facility.
Entering into retirement, we were dealing with family members' medical and personal care issues, at home and inside of care facilities.
The geriatric issues and needs for our family members presented unique challenges. We often felt unprepared to deal with all of them.
Not wanting to be a burden on our family, we had discussed our need for a geriatric care manager. We wanted someone who could guide us and our family through our aging medical care needs.
Our preferred life-care option is to continue our current life-style in our home, and maintain our existing personal relationships.
We felt ThriveMore at Home's complement of pro-active services to be the best option to allow us the opportunity to stay in our home."
Welcome Home, Ed and Pam!
