United Medical Piping Systems provides comprehensive planning, installation, service, and maintenance of medical gas, vacuum, pump, and water systems for healthcare and research facilities. United Medical Piping Systems (UMPS) serves: Duke Health, UNC Healthcare, WakeMed Health, New Hanover Health System and Nash Healthcare. ECU Heart Institute awarded UMPS its first contract to build medical and laboratory piping systems in December 2012, expanding our client base. Medical gas and vacuum systems are delivery systems of oxygen, nitrous oxide, medical air, carbon dioxide, instrument air, helium, nitrogen, medical vacuum and waste anesthetic gas disposal critical to inpatient care and surgical procedures. Regulation of medical gas installations is the responsibility of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) who require all installers are trained to ASSE 6010 standards and installations meet code requirements set forth in NFPA 99C Standard for Medical Gas Installation. UMPS staff of 17 installers are trained to meet these requirements. The individual certifications of the staff and the national recognition of credentials provides UMPS the opportunity to grow beyond North Carolina's borders. UMPS is also able to apply the skills gained through hospital medical gas installation to related sectors including biotech/pharma research, veterinary, dental and university research.
