Many of our Independent Living residents serve the community through our Stewart Health Center (SHC) Auxiliary, which was founded in 1987. Volunteering with the Auxiliary is a great way to get involved and make new friends, and there are many different ways to help.
The Entertainment Troupe (pictured) performed at SHC in July, with a theme of Summer Fun. They sang and danced to “Itsy Bitsy Teeny We**ie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini,” as well as other favorites. And, yes, they are wearing t-shirts!
Auxiliary volunteers also play bingo or bridge with SHC residents, arrange or deliver fresh flowers, distribute daily mail and newspapers, read aloud to inform and entertain, and write notes to and for residents. Our “Friendly Visitors” volunteers sit and talk about current events or their life experiences.
Volunteers can also assist their neighbors at twice-monthly worship services at SHC, plan birthday parties, es**rt residents to various events, eat lunch with folks, and accompany dog owners and their pets as they visit residents.
If you're an Independent Living resident with a calm, friendly dog, volunteer your furry friend to join Pet Partners. Last, but definitely not least, if you can act, sing, or dance, consider becoming a member of our Entertainment Troupe.
