At Atria Carmichael Oaks, Aalyah does more than distribute medication as a Caregiver – she delivers peace of mind and comfort.

We're proud to share that Aalyah was recently honored with the California Assisted Living Association's Excellence in Service Award.

“She’s just really great,” says Kayla, the community's Executive Director. “And she didn’t even think she deserved the award. But that’s what makes her so special. She’s not doing it for recognition. She’s doing it because she cares.”

August’s Taste of Atria luncheon transported us straight to France!
Our residents delighted in a menu featuring classic French Onion Soup, tender Coq au Vin, juicy Beef Medallions, and fresh garden vegetables. No French experience would be complete without a sweet finish- macarons!

After our delicious meal, we unwound with a screening of Julie & Julia, the perfect culinary companion.

We can’t wait to discover the flavors of next month’s destination. Guatemala, here we come!

Every other Tuesday, the book club at Atria Grass Valley gathers to dive into exciting reads, and their recent selection was no exception! Residents read "Blind Descent" by Nevada Barr, a gripping mystery set in the caves of Carlsbad Caverns.

For Richard, architecture was never just a job – it was a lifelong adventure in creativity. For more than five decades, he designed everything from libraries and hospitals to luxury homes and award-winning churches.

“I worked on so many different kinds of projects, with so many wonderful people,” he says. “I was very lucky. The real reward is seeing your buildings finished and people enjoying them.”

Friendship, like flowers, starts as a sprout. And, with time and care, it blossoms into something beautiful!

Shirley, one of our wonderful Resident Ambassadors at Atria Park of Vintage Hills and an avid gardener, inspired fellow resident Phyllis to start her own garden this spring by sharing seeds – and now Phyllis’s garden bed is in full bloom!

It’s a beautiful reminder that it’s never too late to try something new — or to make a new friend along the way.

Meet Terry, a proud U.S. Army veteran and resident of Atria at Hometown. 🇺🇸

After 20 years of military service – including a combat tour in Vietnam and a career in Army JAG – Terry went on to work in federal investigations, covering high-profile cases for agencies like the SEC and Department of Justice. Through it all, one thing stayed constant: his deep commitment to service and integrity.

“I’ve had a great life,” he says. “Every turn seemed to come with a blessing. And I love it here at Hometown,” he adds. “It’s peaceful. We don’t have any stress, any problems, anything. When we got here, I felt like I was in heaven."

Last week our Wonder Women had the pleasure of chatting with Sue from Zebulon United Methodist Church. Sue saw a need in her community and did something about it. The Baby Pantry, a ministry within the church provides infants and children with things such as formula, food, clothes, diapers and more!

Meet Jay, a resident at Atria Grapevine whose love for quilting is matched only by her love for her husband, Jimmy.

Jay and Jimmy moved in nearly three years ago, after his dementia diagnosis, and they’ve found more than just care – they’ve found community. “We know everybody – all the workers, everybody – and it’s so friendly. That’s a real support system for me and Jimmy.”

When she’s not spending time with Jimmy or her neighbors, Jay stays busy stitching quilts, table runners and binding projects for friends (and even her sister). “It’s very calming to me. I enjoy it. There’s a real sense of accomplishment.”

She even transformed her pantry into a cozy sewing nook – a space dedicated to her personal passion.

Known for being an energetic, friendly, an outgoing force of nature, always the first on the dance floor and the heart of every event, bringing joy and connection wherever she goes. Ruthie loves welcoming new neighbors, helping others feel at home and building meaningful connections.

Ruthie says it best, “I love being an ambassador because it gives me the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, each with their own unique stories, perspectives, and experiences to share. Plus it doesn’t hurt that I love to talk!”

When a resident needed urgent medication, Cathyren didn’t hesitate — even on her day off. With persistence and care, she spent more than 10 hours making sure they got the care they needed.

Always ready with a big smile, warm hug or a word of encouragement, Sonji makes sure that every meal is accompanied by her wonderful energy.

Sonji began her journey at Oakridge as a server, quickly standing out for her strong work ethic, dependability, and team-oriented mindset. Her dedication and leadership potential earned her a well-deserved promotion to Assistant Restaurant Manager. In her current role, Sonji plays a key part in overseeing daily operations, mentoring team members, and ensuring every guest enjoys an exceptional dining experience.

July’s Taste of Atria lunch took us to Spain. We served Gazpacho soup, Empanadas, Chicken Paella and to round out the delicious meal we ended with Caramel Flan! To complete our cultural culinary immersion, we enjoyed watching Carmen.

Who came out on top in the Chef Showdown? Our taste testers agreed that Muriel, our talented resident, truly earned the trophy with her winning Rice Pudding recipe!

Each competitor showcased their unique approach to creating a culinary masterpiece, offering up two distinct spins on a beloved classic. What a delightful celebration of flavor and creativity! A huge thank you to our amazing chefs and panelists—Kevin (the cook), Bill, Jim, Elaine, Ruthie, and Margaret—as well as our fantastic commentator Ada. And of course, a special shout-out to everyone who helped stir up such a fun and unforgettable event!
