September is Baby Safety Month, so we’ve got a few tips that we always share with new parents to keep their little ones safe:

πŸ’€ Safe Sleep! Always follow the AAP’s Safe Sleep Guidelines when your little one is sleeping. Most importantly make sure they are on their back, in a flat, firm space, with no pillows, blankets, or anything else in their sleep space.

🌊 Water Safety! Never leave a baby or young child in the water unattended. Even 1 inch of water can be a drowning risk.

⬇️ Fall Safety! Always supervise your baby when they are on an elevated surface. Even if your baby is not rolling yet, it’s still possible to squirm their way off a changing table, bed, or couch.

🌑️ Temperature Safety! The ideal temperature for your baby’s nursery is between 68-72 degrees F. Anything above 72 can pose a risk for overheating and anything below 68 can be too chilly for newborns who have to work harder to regulate their body temperature.

Stay safe this month and always!

There is something about postpartum that we don’t talk about: Postpartum is lonely.

Who would possibly understand any of this?

Don’t people have babies all the time?

Why does it look so easy on social media?

It is so easy to sink into the isolated, loneliness that all of these big questions and feelings can cause.

And that’s where our postpartum doulas come in.

At Doulas of Raleigh, our postpartum doulas are different. Our doulas share a common understanding of postpartum doula support and it’s core, powerful value. We want Raleigh families to know that they do not have to do this alone πŸ’™

Is your partner worried about being replaced by a doula during your labor and birth?

πŸ’™ Good news…doulas are there to support partners just as much as they are there to provide support for the person in labor!

πŸ” Our labor doulas use prenatal meetings with clients to find out how partners want to be involved in the labor process.

πŸ’ͺ When you go into labor, your doula will reassure your partner, make sure they take breaks, answer questions, and give them suggestions for how to physically support you.
