The mission of the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. The Board administers primary and subspecialty certification exams as well as the Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program (MOCA), which is designed to promote lifelong learning, a commitment to quality clinical outcomes and patient safety. Based in Raleigh, N.C., the ABA is a nonprofit organization and a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties.

The end of the year is rapidly approaching; are you on track to complete your MOCA requirements? Use this quick checklist to see where you stand ahead of the Dec. 31 deadline:

✅ Answer 120 MOCA Minute questions by Dec. 31, 11:59 p.m. ET
✅ Ensure your medical licensure status is satisfactory in your ABA GO portal
✅ Report 250 Category 1 CME credits, including 20 Patient Safety credits, by the end of year 10 and 125 Category 1 CME credits, including 10 Patient Safety credits, by the end of year five
✅ Attest to completing 50 Quality Improvement points by the end of year 10 or 25 points by the end of year five

We foster practice standards that instill confidence and trust that board-certified anesthesiologists have the knowledge and skills to provide high-quality patient care. We are dedicated to elevating expertise in an evolving profession. Our mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. We work together with physician anesthesiologists to ensure they provide the best care possible for every patient, every day.
