Another successful committee meeting is complete! The ADVANCED Exam question editor team, made up of board-certified anesthesiologists from across the country, gathered May 14–15 in Raleigh, N.C., and virtually.

In addition to developing and refining exam questions, the group also reviewed 2025 exam results, bringing valuable insights to their work as they help uphold the rigor of the ADVANCED Exam, the second step in the board certification journey.

Anesthesiologists make critical decisions that affect patients directly. Certification must reflect the high level of judgment and readiness these decisions demand.

At the ABA, assessment extends beyond exam day, from development to delivery through post‑exam review. Board‑certified anesthesiologists apply performance data and professional expertise to examine approximately 16,000 candidates each year.

After working as a hospital janitor for 10 years, Dr. Shay Taylor matched into anesthesiology at Yale, the same hospital she once cleaned. Dr. Taylor's journey reminds us that the path to medicine isn’t always linear, demonstrating the power of perseverance and the importance of opening doors for future physicians from all backgrounds.

Join us in congratulating Dr. Taylor and all the new anesthesiology residents this Match season. 👏
