Not invisible.



I almost missed this delightful creature one morning this week. And I did, indeed, think he was a leaf caught in an unseen web.

I wondered why he wasn’t in the woods or in the bushes at least.

“How will you step out of your comfort zone into the light? Out from behind your camouflage and just blending in?”

That’s what I felt he was there to tell me.

Unexpected, exposed, safe, and magnificent.

Give profound guidance.



One of my favorite parts of nearly every day is walking in nature. Even when I follow the same path, I always encounter something new. This week was especially magical.

Back at the Neuse River Trail, I felt attuned to the natural world—and it felt attuned to me. For the first time, I saw red dragonflies skimming the water and resting on the rocks, as if beckoning me onward. And so I followed.

One day they led me to the remains of a giant snapping turtle, another day to a single red admiral butterfly. On another walk, I heard their whisper to look for deer—and there they were: a mother and her fawn, just outgrowing her spots.

These encounters left me with deep gratitude and clarity. They also marked a shift: I’m emerging from a season of disinterest in writing, sharing, and offering. For a while, I felt jaded with social media and the pull of online life. I’ve been allowing and accepting that.

I’ve also been discerning how much division is fueled not only by politics but by the very algorithms that shape what we see. It’s unsettling. And yet, to me, it feels like a message for all of us:
-seek out more than one source,
-resist fanning the flames,
-stay curious about why others think the way they do,
-and remember how to think and discern for yourself.
This is true across the whole spectrum of culture and politics. And while it may feel hard in those charged spaces, we can begin to practice Compassionate Discernment in simpler, less triggering places in our lives.

From Taoist wisdom to the heart of Christ’s original teachings, the guidance is the same: compassion without judgment leads to harmony. Again and again, I’ve seen how judgment—left unexamined—makes people miserable, even sick. Heck, it made me sick and miserable decades ago.

And so I return to the river, to the dragonflies, the deer, the butterfly. Nature reminds me that presence is the beginning of discernment. Observing without judgment is a practice. It opens space for gratitude, clarity, and the possibility of harmony.

May we all find that kind of guidance, wherever we walk.

I wrote this little booklet 9 years ago (see link below and in comments). I look over it every now and then, to see if I should update it. It's still super pertinent - after all, ancient wisdom never goes out of favor...

Here's an excerpt:

"Ancient teachings in many different faiths and cultures have complementary and synonymous teachings that often promote unconditional love for all and for everything that happens as the foundation for living and interacting with others. For many of us, truly being free from negative thoughts and having only love is quite a challenge. In fact, as we recall the people and things that drive us nuts, many of us disregard this omnipresent ancient teaching as unattainable.

If this has been your experience, know that you are not alone. What is clear from humanity’s thousands of years of spiritual study and integrated teachings is that we are healthier and enjoy life more when we have less judgment about ourselves and others and open our hearts to what is happening. These teachings would not have persisted into today’s world religions were there not fundamental truths there.

Being calm and open­hearted *in the moment* is this concept of presence or being in the moment of now that is often referred to in more modern stress reduction and spiritual guidance. Try it for yourself

“Compassion is always the answer.”

This focus, which our teacher opened with over four weeks ago, is one of the reasons I chose to participate in this month of intensive training in Tulúm, Mexico. In the process, I gained a deeper understanding of Taoist teachings and Qi Gong practice and Ta***ic teachings for a greater capacity for love and compassion and JOY. It’s not just been a deeper understanding of what keeps us from accessing and expanding this capacity.  Unlike anything I’ve encountered before, it’s been a powerful embodied integration experience - I’m forever changed.

I’m all about expanding the capacity to find compassion. Compassion and trust in myself vitalizes my resilience and opens me to joy and ease.  It’s for us all.

While I have had a quiet period online and in outreach in general, the inward period has allowed much self-reflection and much not-always-comfortable growth…. YAY EVOLUTION!

Let’s see what we can do together to create more light and more love on this planet.  I don’t think there has ever been a better time to begin again, Loves.

A way for the Light

Kind Warrior Stance

“Firmly establish your intention to live your life for the healing of the world. Be conscious of it, honor it, nurture it every day.

Be fully present in our time. Find the courage to breathe in the suffering of the world. Allow peace and healing to breathe out through you in return.

Do not meet power on its own terms. See through to its real nature, mind- and heart-made. Lead your response from that level.

Simplify. Clear away the dead wood in your life. Look for the heartwood and give It the first call on your time; the best of your energy.

Put down the leaden burden of saving the world alone. Join with others of like mind. Align yourself with the forces of resolution.

Hold in a single vision, in the same thought, the transformation of yourself and the transformation of the world. Live your life around that edge, always keeping it in sight.

As a bird flies on two wings, balance outer activity with inner sustenance.

Following your heart, realize your gifts. Cultivate them with diligence to offer knowledge and skill to the world.

Train in non-violence of body, speech and mind. With great patience with yourself, learn to make beautiful each action, word and thought.

In the crucible of meditation, bring forth day by day into your own heart the treasury of compassion, wisdom and courage for which the world longs.

Sit with hatred until you feel the fear beneath it.
Sit with fear until you feel the compassion beneath that.

Do not set your heart on particular results. Enjoy positive action for its own sake and rest confident that it will bear fruit.

When you see violence, greed and narrow-mindedness in the fullness of its power, walk straight into the heart of it, remaining open to the sky and in touch with the earth.

Staying open, staying grounded, remember that you are the inheritor of the strengths of thousands of generations of life.

Staying open, staying grounded, recall that the thankful prayers of future generations are silently with you.

Staying open, staying grounded, be confident in the magic and power that arise when people come together in a great cause.

Staying open, staying grounded, know that the deep forces of Nature will emerge to the aid of those who defend the Earth.

Staying open, staying grounded, have faith that the higher forces of wisdom and compassion will manifest through our actions for the healing of the world.

When you see weapons of hate, disarm them with love.
When you see armies of greed, meet them in the spirit of sharing.
When you see fortresses of narrow-mindedness, breach them with truth,
When you find yourself enshrouded in dark clouds of dread, dispel them with fearlessness.
When forces of power seek to isolate us from each other, reach out with joy.

In it all and through it all, holding to your intention, let go into the music of life. Dance!"

I found these words to be powerful reminders for HOW I choose to live my life every day. I found these words to be compassionate guidance for HOW to apply the teachings of Christian love and allowance. I found these words to be an answer for HOW to stay connected to our highest possibilities as a culture and a species.

And now, I will go dance to something that brings me JOY.
