Healthy Tips: Most battled salad dressings are packed with added sugar and excess calories you don't need! Put that good old alive al and vinegar sitting on the counter to good use, far crying out loud It's not there for decoration. Many salad dressings contain added sugar and numerous inflammatory cils Ike canola and soybean oil Steer clear.
Swap out sugar for cinnamon - your heart wil thank you it's a natural anti-intlammatory and actually stabilizes blood sugar!!! Cinnamon is my FAVE. It's so sweet without the sugar. I tell all clents to use cinnamon in colfee instead of flavored miks and sugar, and guess what? It works!

Tips to Navigate the Supermarket!

In this article of I outlined some realistic ways to maximize the supermarket that result in high quality nutrition AND saving some $$$ ( and who doesn’t want that).

- always seek out proteins like canned fish, canned beans , bags of raw nuts/seeds, frozen wild fish, fresh organic meat, pastured eggs. It’s smarter to spend $ on protein than packaged/processed snacks bc protein fills you up and you can make several meals from diff protein sources, whereas the j***y snacks just make you want to eat more!

- Shop store brands for cheaper prices. Ppl think Whole Foods is expensive… the 365 Brand is cheaper than certain items at ShopRite, etc.

- Read labels and choose foods that contain as little wording as possible. Sugars, guns, additives, chemicals are all words to avoid.

CHOOSE REAL FOODS. Eggs have one ingredient. Apples are apples. Cashew butter is cashews. Get my drift🙄😉

Alsooooo please stop buying the fake meat products. You’re wasting your money AND contributing to unwellness. You want a ‘veggie burger?’ buy one that is entirely made of veggies ( not inflammatory oils, gums, chemically engineered sources of protein).

Halloween is here 🎃

It’s ok for kids to enjoy Halloween candy, but when too much is consumed, belly-aches begin, mood swings and sleeping through the night is a challenge.

A HUGE problem is that most families keep Halloween candy in the house for months after the holiday. Reaching into the cabinet for a Snickers becomes more than just an indulgence—it becomes a habit.

Candy is FULL of added sugar, consumption of which contributes to insulin resistance and inflammation.

You can help AVOID making Halloween a habit by following these tips:

1️⃣ 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗳𝗳: before your kids go out to trick-or-treat, feed them a nutritious dinner consisting of protein, vegetables and a complex carbohydrate to keep them full so they aren’t as tempted to eat every candy bar they touch throughout the night.

2️⃣ 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆: talk to your kids a week before Halloween about the focus of the holiday being on costumes, decorations & enjoying quality time with family and friends and remind them of this every day until Halloween.

3️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗿-𝗯𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀: stress that it’s ok to eat a few candy bars, but not to go overboard until they feel sick. Remind them that when they’ve eaten too much sugar in the past, their tummies hurt and they couldn’t fall asleep.

4️⃣ 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴: when trick-or-treating is over, sort the candy into 2 piles: the types of candy your kids love and the types they’re indifferent to or you know they don’t like, and donate the latter.

5️⃣ 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀: develop a rule for how long candy can stay in the house so the family doesn’t eat it straight through the year.

6️⃣ 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲: buy candy that doesn’t appeal to you or the kids to keep in the house for other trick-or-treaters so you’re not tempted!

Greens are medicine. Simple. Whatever anyone is telling you about diet, nutrition, weight loss, getting healthy - know this: YOU CAN’T FAKE IT. You HAVE TO DO THE WORK. In life & in the kitchen, you have to be willing to put in the work. Even when it’s hard. No one ever got & STAYED healthy & fit without cooking/eating greens. Period.

If you’re falling for these short-term diet trends by taking weight loss medication or eating ‘diet’ foods… you’re playing the short game & I promise results won’t last long-term. Changing habits, lifestyle & calling bu****it on yourself is what leads to long-term change.

Stop making it a big to do.
Sauté some spinach with your dinner, add romaine to your sandwich, throw swiss chard into your eggs, add baby kale to your soup. Or, do what I do and steam a bunch of greens at once, leave in the fridge and add to foods/meals as needed throughout the week.

Don’t just take my word for it: all the Blue Zones in the world ( places where people live the longest & are the healthiest) all have one thing in common: VEGETABLES ARE A DIET STAPLE.

Want to feel full and not bloated or have sugar cravings? I mean, isn’t this EVERYONE? Put down the crap and eat SEEDS. Seriously, it’s that simple.

Pumpkin & sunflower seeds: 10 grams protein/7 grams fiber: NO ADDED INGREDIENTS.

Test me to see if I’m right: when you need a snack to fill you up for a couple hours, pack a baggie of seeds OR eat your bar full of gums, sugar, chemically engineered ingredients… and tell me which made you feel BETTER & FULLER🤗🤗🤗

Next time you pick up that bar or that bag of crackers, look at all the ingredients. Those ingredients are wreaking havoc on your health. Period. Follow along for no BS nutrition tips. You heard it here first🤗🤗🤗

OWN IT. If you’re sticking to healthy habits, engaging in self-improving behavior changes that take a lot of mental work, or you’re just continuing to ‘get after it’ in ways that challenge you physically or mentally, OWN THAT S**T. 🤗Be proud of yourself, remind yourself that each step is a step towards something big. Each time you do something that is purposeful, something you feel good about, something that sets you apart…. acknowledge it.

Whoever said life should be easy and made up of easy decisions clearly never worked on themselves and made themselves ‘uncomfortable’.

Living in the ‘uncomfortable’ is my MO 😉It’s the ONLY way you grow. I fully believe that. Exercising in 100 degrees and sweating my ass off isn’t ‘comfortable’, nor is admitting and communicating the really hard s**t.

That’s the thing about me/ppl who aren’t afraid of the ‘uncomfortable’; we’re an easy target because we put it all out there. We also have the foresight to see that rainbows can legit only exist after it’s rained. We are wise enough to understand that change/new ways of doing things don’t happen seamlessly or without f**k-ups.

So, get off your judgmental ass if you’re sitting nice & comfy putting a dent in your couch from your ass imprint, living in a world where you never question anything and are ‘comfortable’. 😒😒

So, whether it’s exercise that feels freaking brutal, making healthier choices when you’d rather stuff your face with Oreos, communicating over withdrawing or looking at yourself objectively to determine how you contribute to a situation or dynamic - - these are all purposeful choices that show YOU you’re capable of growth, change and understanding that NOTHING worthwhile comes easy.

Unfortunately, many are not equipped to do the hard work and scare easily when change, conflict and uncomfortability arise. Don’t give up. I tell my clients this everyday: because when you go thru it, when you’ve made changes, that is when LIFE IS ITS MOST MEANINGFUL.

For most, Instagram is a place to catch up on celeb gossip and stare at pics of the biggest stack of pancakes ever made (and I do both 😊 ), but I want to tell you the main reason I opened an account: to spread the message that Food IS Medicine and that real people can change how they feel.

I’ve helped so many different types of people – not just people who are aware of what shopping at Whole Foods looks like and how to do yoga, but people who had never eaten vegetables, who believed that they could never think differently about their own health and who had no prior knowledge of the concept that we actually hold the fate of our future by how we choose to take care of ourselves.

I’ve helped middle-aged men with high cholesterol and heart disease learn to develop a new mindset that food can be delicious AND not cause these ailments. I’ve helped teenage girls understand that food is not about calories – but is about fuel, energy, brain-power and when we nourish ourselves correctly, that is when we are giving ourselves the most opportunity life has to offer.

I’ve helped mom’s of all ages learn to put themselves at #1 because if we don’t take care of ourselves, we are useless to those around us.

People are complex. Cancer, digestive disorders, chronic stress, heart disease, autoimmune conditions, diabetes, joint pain, food allergies, acne, weight-gain and more all exist within most of us.

Don’t hide it. Acknowledge it and realize you’re not alone and then take the next step and start to investigate, reflect and put yourself in a position to hear how you can learn ways to improve your conditions slowly over time. That’s what I do. It’s simple.

Don’t commit to a whole new YOU or to a whole new YEAR; just commit to treating yourself with care and purpose. So many of us fall into the trap of starting a DIET this time of year and vowing to change everything about how we live and it never works. The ‘all or nothing’ mentality does not lead to long-term change or mental/physical satisfaction.

The only advice I want to give as many other messages out there are preaching cleanses, fasts, gym memberships, meditative practices and anything else you can think of that most of us will dapple in for a week or two and then quit – is this:

Develop a mindset that allows you to look inward and investigate what you are actually doing and that prioritizes YOU/YOUR NEEDS/WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT FOR YOUR BODY.

Commit to living with intention and ask yourself throughout the day if what you are doing is an actual healthy, solid choice that is improving your health. If it’s not, use common sense and make a small change. It’s not difficult.

If you are drinking soda, realize it’s cutting your life short and replace it with seltzer and a splash of fruit juice. If you are putting sugar into your coffee, realize you are increasing your chance of diabetes and replace it with cinnamon/vanilla extract. If you haven’t exercised in a long time, realize you will continue to gain weight and put strain on your joints leading to medical problems and just go for short walks a few times a day.

Take away: Use objectivity. The smartest people I know are those who can look at themselves and admit when they need to make changes. Just because you’ve been doing something for a long time, it doesn’t mean it’s the right thing. Open your mind. Realize all the wonderful benefits you will reap by making small changes ( and then thank me).

Walking in sunshine looking like I’m in an 80’s ad is exactly my INTENT. It’s what makes ME feel good over and over and over 😉😉
