January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month

Pap smears, HPV testing, age cutoffs… confused? You’re not alone.

Let’s break down cervical cancer screening based on USPSTF recommendations:

Under 21: No screening recommended
Ages 21–29: Pap smear every 3 years
Ages 30–65:
• HPV testing every 5 years, OR
• Pap + HPV co-testing every 5 years, OR
• Pap smear alone every 3 years
Over 65: Screening can stop if there has been adequate prior screening and no history of high-grade cervical disease
