“Red light therapy” is popular now… but is it actually real photobiomodulation?

A lot of gyms are starting to advertise “red light” as a perk. But very few people are asking the questions that actually matter.

When it comes to real red light therapy, you should always know three things:

• Irradiance (the dosing)
• Wavelengths being used
• EMF exposure

If a company offers red light therapy, they should have nothing to hide about those specs.

If they can’t tell you the mW/cm² irradiance, the exact wavelengths, or the EMF levels, there is a good chance they don’t actually know… and that usually means the device was sold to them with marketing, not science.

New research is exploring how red and near-infrared light interacts with heart cells at the cellular level 📊

A recent published review shows photobiomodulation (PBM) may help mitigate cardiovascular remodeling, support circulation, and reduce age-related decline in heart function in preclinical models. PBM has been linked to improved endothelial function and vascular health in animal studies.

Another LED-Red study found that 630 nm red light improved cardiac output and mitochondrial ATP production, reduced fibrosis, and supported healthier heart tissue in mice with heart failure.
