💚We’re proud to see the Gifford Medical Center Auxiliary Thrift Shop featured in Valley News' recent spotlight on thrift shopping in the Upper Valley.

As traditional thrift shops across the region face new challenges, our little shop in Randolph continues to offer more than just affordable treasures, it’s a place where community, connection, and compassion come first.

All profits from the shop go directly to support care at Gifford Medical Center, so every find is also a way to give back.

A huge thank you to the dedicated volunteers and part-time staff who keep the shop running. Your time and care make this space so special.

🎉 Exciting News! Please join us in congratulating Dr. Courtney Riley on being published in the Journal of Pediatrics! Her article, "Accelerating Guideline Recommended Universal Pediatric Lipid Screening: Launch of the LEAD Pediatric Initiative," is a major step forward in the fight against early heart disease.

Dr. Riley’s paper is focused on improving identification of FH, a common life-threatening genetic condition that causes high cholesterol from birth, and supporting universal pediatric lipid screening between ages 9–11. Universal screening at 9-11 would allow early intervention and would significantly impact lifetime cholesterol accumulation which would save hundreds of thousands of young people from being burdened by early cardiovascular disease and early death.

Dr. Riley shares, “This mission is deeply personal for me. I lost my sister to a fatal heart attack at just 23 years old in January 2021. Since then, I’ve committed my time and energy to raising awareness about genetic heart conditions. My family has elevated lipoprotein(a) — also known as Lp(a) — a common but often underdiagnosed genetic condition (affecting 1 in 5 people worldwide). I was honored to partner with patients, pediatric cardiologists, primary care pediatricians and adult cardiologists across the US to work on this project together.”

At Gifford, we’re proud to be ahead of the curve. Our providers are educated on FH and Lp(a), and we’ve incorporated both into our standard screening protocols. Universal Lp(a) screening is recommended by international societies, and while it hasn’t yet been adopted by the AHA, we’re proud that our proactive approach is being recognized by the Family Heart Foundation.

This is how we change lives. 💪
