🎼When our providers aren’t seeing patients, they’re doing some pretty cool things! Dr. Doug Weiss, orthopedic surgeon at Gifford and team physician for USA Hockey, recently had the honor of presenting personalized USA Hockey jerseys to musicians Vince Gill and Amy Grant at their Christmas concert in Nashville!

Dr. Weiss’s involvement in this memorable moment highlights the care and dedication he brings not only to his patients here at Gifford but also to the athletes he supports on a national level. Whether it’s on the ice with USA Hockey or in our community, Dr. Weiss is a true example of how Gifford goes above and beyond for the people we serve.

We are proud to have him represent Gifford in such a special way, making connections that bring people together and showcase the heart of Team Gifford.

This January, in honor of Mental Wellness Month, we’re starting a new series called 'Mindful Moments' to offer small moments of insight and support.

Today, we’re grateful to share wisdom from Daniela Caserta, MA, LMFT, a compassionate member of Gifford’s psychiatry and counseling team. Daniela works with individuals of all ages, guiding them through their mental health journeys with empathy and care.

Daniela reminds us that “Adversity happens to all of us. Getting through life without stress and anxiety is an unrealistic expectation.” Life can bring up a mix of emotions, some we welcome, others we’d rather avoid. But as Daniela shares, avoiding difficult feelings doesn’t make them disappear—it can actually make them harder to manage. Instead, learning how to sit with uncomfortable emotions can help us build resilience and cope in healthier ways.

Below are some tips Daniela shares for when your feelings are overwhelming:

👋Meet Team Gifford!

Say hello to Erica Schleif, LCMHC, a dedicated Licensed Clinical Therapist and the Clinical Coordinator of Psychiatry and Counseling. Erica is all about helping children and adolescents work through life’s challenges with care and understanding. As a clinical coordinator, she’s also the one making sure everything runs smoothly, creating a welcoming space for both our patients and our amazing staff.

When asked what she loves most about working at Gifford, Erica shared, "What don't I love about working here would be easier! I know I’m making a difference in people’s lives, and I’m grateful for the incredible team I get to work with every single day. I never feel alone in my work."

Outside of work, Erica enjoys all that Vermont has to offer, cooking up a storm, hiking, skiing, biking, and spending quality time with her friends and family (and yes, her beloved goats 🐐).

We’re so grateful to have Erica as part of our Gifford family. Thank you, Erica, for everything you do to support our community!

At Gifford, we believe that healing isn't just about medicine; it's about the care, warmth, and connection that happens in the room. One of our patients shared how Dr. Oliver Barnyak's kindness and genuine warmth made a lasting difference during some of his toughest times.

From the moment he walks into a room, you feel the reassurance of a familiar, compassionate face. His thoughtful bedside manner and the way he treats each patient like family are just some of the reasons he's so beloved.

We're proud to have providers like Dr. Barnyak who make such an incredible impact on our patients' lives.
