Fathers, we need you! Your work is holy and sacred to the health and well being of families. We need your strength, your fortitude and your love to build flourishing families, communities and whole societies!
Today, in honor of the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, we urge you to look to the dedication and sacrifices of the foster father of Jesus to encourage and inspire you in your daily responsibilities and duties.

“Will that money given to the mother encourage the child’s biological father to actually be involved in the child’s life? Adoption gave my son a better start and deeply motivated me to make serious life changes. Open adoption provided me that village so my child could thrive, all while staying connected to his biological roots and the love I have for him. Adoption will always be needed, so let’s focus on better adoption education, moral/ethical practices, and post-placement care.

I’m not just a birth mother; over the 22 years since I placed my son, I’ve spoken with countless birth mothers and served women facing unexpected pregnancies. First, it’s important to understand that most women who are abortion-determined are not actively considering adoption. Many have never even heard of adoption as an option, and simply sharing adoption stories from experience can help them avoid rushing into a hasty decision. Adoption saves lives—let’s celebrate that, rather than discredit it because of personal agendas toward others’ decisions.

Second, choosing to place a child for adoption is never a decision made lightly. It’s a deeply thoughtful and emotional process that women often wrestle with over time. No one is rushing into adoption, bribed or overly eager, as if it’s a simple or flippant choice. Regardless of what you’ve heard or read from a few voices, most women have the time and space to carefully consider their decision when making an adoption plan (this excludes CPS cases and the rare nuances of “coercion” - but that’s a completely different discussion we need to set aside for later)… Continued in comments 👇🏼🤍

One Yes At A Time: How Open Adoption Transformed Our Family

Behind every no is a what if.

What if you said yes instead of no ? What if you took the leap instead of playing it safe? What if you went for the life you wanted instead of accepting the one you have?

One Yes at a Time is one family’s origin story of taking risks together. By saying yes to two open adoptions, Susan Strong and her husband stepped into the unknown of adoptive parenting with eagerness, but also absolutely blind to what came next. Over time, they learned to let go of control and trust the process, eventually building a beautiful life for themselves and their children.

This book is not just a memoir of one family’s unusual beginning. It is the story of family itself and a reminder that love is something we have to practice each and every day. It is an invitation to see the world a little more unconventionally, to step out into that new and daring adventure that requires trust. Saying yes gets easier with time, even when it means doing the hard thing. When we choose to see possibility in difficulty, opportunity emerges in new and surprising ways. Every challenge met on the path of life is another opportunity to believe the best is yet to come. And the only way we get there is with one yes at a time.

Happy Feast of St Nicholas! Did you know that St Nicolas is the Patron Saint of Women in Need?

A Prayer to St. Nicholas for a Child (at Christmastime)

Generous St. Nicholas, you are the joy of little children, and the bearer of sweet gifts.
Please grant me the grace in my heart to be childlike once more.
Grant me the happiness, wonder, and awe, to enjoy the beautiful world that God has gifted us with.
Fill my heart with faith this Advent season, and help me to trust in the journey.
As your feast day prepares us for the Christmas season, so prepare my heart and faith to be strong in my time of waiting.

I ask you, St. Nicholas, for the greatest gift. The gift of a child.
Please place my request before the throne of Jesus, so that he may hear and answer my deepest request.
Continue to intercede on by behalf until my healthy and happy child is in my arms.
Obtain for me the grace to be peaceful and joyful during my waiting.
And, this advent season, bring me in reverence to the Holy Child of Bethlehem.
Amen.
