Not your typical Christmas message...
I just have to say, I feel incredibly blessed and honored to have you as a part of our Mello family. And as a part of that family, I want to say thank you for all of your support over this last year. Each year has it's own peaks and valleys but all in all, those challenges are what shape us into the person we need to be - that is, if we allow it to. It is also a great reminder as to what makes life most valuable. Year after year we say, 'It's not about the gifts'. You and I both know it's not about the materialistic gifts but there are the gifts we have been given in order to serve one another. Serving each other is a way to bring peace and joy to our 'village'. My hope is that I am using my gifts and talents to provide you with the best care that I can with what I have been called to do in this chapter of my life.
I heard a beautiful message the other day that started out rather somber but was instead deep and meaningful. I don't remember it word for word but I will try to summarize:
Two generations from now or maybe even in the next, the home that you worked so hard for (no matter the size) and filled with all your things will be owned by a stranger. All of our possession will be given away or thrown out. The car we drive will be long gone. Our photos will be forgotten in a dusty cupboard or lost in the vast digital world. Our children's children will only hear of us in stories told and their children might not even know our names. So, if none of these matter in the end - what matters today?
How liberating is it to be reminded that we can stop chasing worldly possessions and keeping up with trends but rather savor the day to day ordinary rhythms. Things like throwing on that soft, worn-in sweatshirt and meeting a friend for cup of coffee. Putting on your slippers and letting your feet carry you to get the mail. Watching the sun shimmer off of the morning dew. Seeing the steam rise and dance off of your evening cup of tea. Each day is a chance to do things differently. Let us take a moment to pause and appreciate the things we have right now.
There are still things to celebrate and tender hearts out there just like you and I. Good things - right here, right now. Again, I am beyond blessed to have you as part of our Mello Family. Let us continue to have eyes to see the good, hearts to accept each other, ears to listen for how we can help, wisdom in our minds to make good decisions and courage to know when to step up or stand down. We can make big changes with small, every day choices. Let us cultivate an abundance of joy, let us change the world!
Merry Christmas & Many Blessings,
Janel M.
