Ever wondered what those round cupping marks are and why therapists use them?
Cupping therapy is a technique used to help relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and support the body’s natural healing process. At The Body Spa & Cryo, our therapists may use two styles depending on what your body needs: static cupping or moving cupping (also known as myofascial cupping).
Static Cupping
Static cupping involves placing cups on specific areas of the body and leaving them in place for several minutes.
The gentle suction helps:
✔ Increase circulation
✔ Release tight muscle tissue and trigger points
✔ Decompress fascia and connective tissue
✔ Encourage lymphatic drainage
Static cupping is often used to target stubborn knots or specific areas of tension.
Moving Cupping (Myofascial Cupping)
Moving cupping involves gliding the cups across the skin while maintaining suction.
This technique helps:
✔ Release fascial restrictions
✔ Improve mobility and tissue flexibility
✔ Increase circulation across larger muscle groups
✔ Help muscles move more freely
The Difference
• Static cupping targets a specific area by leaving the cups in place.
• Moving cupping treats a broader area by gliding the cups through the tissue.
Both techniques may be used during treatment depending on what your body needs.
At The Body Spa & Cryo
Cupping is always available as a complimentary add-on to any massage service if requested or if the therapist feels it would benefit your treatment.
We also offer cupping as a stand-alone service, which focuses on one targeted area of the body and does not include massage therapy.
