GUESS THE FUNCTION OF THE BEHAVIOR! 💙

✨ Answer: Attention! ✨

In this example, Sam threw a toy after being told it was time to clean up. That tells us the behavior is serving an attention function — meaning Sam is trying to get a reaction or interaction from an adult.

💡 In ABA, knowing the function of a behavior helps us respond in ways that are supportive and effective. If a child is using attention-seeking behaviors, we might:

Teach them to ask for attention appropriately

Provide attention for positive behaviors instead of the challenging ones

Create structured ways for the child to interact and get noticed

👉 By understanding why a behavior happens, we can teach functional and more independent ways for children to get their needs met.
