The origination of Black Hills Recreational Therapy came from an out-of-the-box Therapist who would take her clients out in nature for counseling sessions. She walked with them, talked with them, kayaked together, rode motorcycles and 4-wheelers on occasion, and even blew up a printer one day. She found not only that therapy results improved with even more efficiency, as people were more comfortable and in an increasingly resourceful state of mind having fun and finding internal balance being in nature, but also that clients became even more resourceful on their own and developed new ways of coping and new interests that improved their lives. She loved it when a client would send a follow-up message that they had purchased their own kayak or taken their kiddos on a hike! And so, she created Black Hills Recreational Therapy to offer access to our natural recreational resources to anyone, not just therapy clients. With its creation, she added trained local guides to accommodate almost any interest as they take people off the beaten path and share their love of the Black Hills.
