Today is MOON Day! 🌛🌝🌜
Here are some fun facts about our lovely Luna!
-The Moon is believed to have formed from debris after a Mars-sized object collided with Earth billions of years ago.
-The Moon's gravity is the primary driver of Earth's tides.
-The Moon is tidally locked with Earth, meaning the same side of the Moon always faces us.
-The phases of the Moon we see are due to the changing angles at which we view the sunlit portion of the Moon as it orbits Earth.
-While the Moon's surface is dry, there's evidence of water ice in permanently shadowed craters and potentially water within the Moon's interior.
-The Moon experiences seismic activity, known as moonquakes, though they are less frequent and powerful than earthquakes.
-The Moon is slowly drifting away from Earth at a rate of about 1.5 inches per year.
