The school year is almost over. Some parents are already thinking about summer plans. Others are thinking about next year.. and whether their child or teen might benefit from more support than they've been getting.

Intellectual and academic assessments can provide answers when something feels off. If your child struggles more than seems reasonable with reading, attention, memory, or processing information, an evaluation can clarify what's happening and guide next steps.

These assessments identify learning differences, attention challenges, giftedness, and cognitive strengths and weaknesses. Results often support IEPs, 504 plans, or private school accommodations. They can also help parents and teachers understand how a child learns best.

Summer is a great time to schedule. There's less academic pressure, and results can be in place before the new school year begins.

If you've been wondering whether an evaluation would help your child or teen, call 605-721-8822.

Mental Health Awareness Month wraps up this weekend. The work of caring for yourself and the people around you doesn't stop on May 31.

A few small things worth carrying into June..

Check in with someone you haven't heard from in a while. Ask how they're actually doing.

If you've been considering therapy, make the call this week. Waiting often makes reaching out feel harder, not easier.

Talk openly about your own mental health when it feels safe to do so. Every honest conversation chips away at stigma.

Notice when you need rest, and give yourself permission to take it. And if therapy is the next action on your list, we're ready when you are. 605-721-8822

Memorial Day.

Today we honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country. We remember their sacrifice, and we hold space for the families who carry the weight of their loss.

Grief doesn't fade on a schedule. For Gold Star families, for veterans who've lost brothers and sisters in arms, and for communities shaped by loss, today can be heavy.

If this weekend stirs up grief, anxiety, or painful memories, you don't have to sit with it alone. Talking with someone trained in grief and trauma can lighten what you're carrying.

Scovel Psychological honors all who have served and all who grieve today. If you need someone in your corner this week, we're here. 605-721-8822

If you or a loved one are in crisis, reach out to the 988 Su***de and Crisis Lifeline. Veterans can press 1 after dialing to reach the Veterans Crisis Line.

Grief isn't linear. It shows up on days you don't expect.. a song, a scent, an empty chair at dinner. And it can feel isolating, especially when the people around you have moved on while you're still carrying it.

Grief counseling is a space to process loss at your own pace.

The loss might be recent or decades old. It might be the death of a loved one, a divorce, an estrangement, a miscarriage, the end of a career, or any significant change that has left you feeling different from who you used to be.

In grief counseling, you work with a licensed therapist who understands what you're carrying. You make sense of your feelings, build tools for the hard moments, and find ways to carry your loss without it defining every day.

If grief has been weighing on you, we'd be honored to walk with you through it. 605-721-8822

"The bravest thing you can do when you're not feeling okay is tell someone."

There's courage in saying the hard thing out loud. To a trusted friend. A family member. A therapist.

Mental Health Monday reminder.. reaching out doesn't have to be polished or perfect. Just honest.

If you've been holding something in, this is your sign to say it out loud. We're a safe place to start. 605-721-8822

Sometimes in order to heal, you have to remove yourself from a toxic environment. If the environment you’re in continues to make you upset, depressed, anxious, then reassess where you were at. If you cannot remove yourself permanently, maybe you remove yourself for a couple of hours or days until you feel balanced and refreshed. If you can remove yourself, it’s most likely the best decision until you are able to clear your mind and feel like you can make the best decisions for your life.
