With the holidays approaching, I would like to start a fun activity where we can share our traditions during this time.

Please tell us in the comments if you and your friends or family participate in any special activities this season! I would love to try new things with my family!

I speak Urdu, Hindi, and English, and I celebrate all languages and cultures! I am devoted to providing therapy services that value and honor each family’s unique lifestyle.

🫧 I hate to burst your bubble...

But there is no "quick fix" to becoming neurodiversity-affirming.

This is a change that takes time.

It comes from unlearning, learning, and growing over many different experiences and courses.

It comes from listening to diverse voices and getting uncomfortable.

Anyone can say they are "neurodiversity-affirming" but are their ACTIONS demonstrating that?

🤍 Double tap if you agree!

🚨 Scripts are so important but may mean something different than the verbalized message.

It is very important to acknowledge all scripts so a child feels safe using them and doesn't push their phrases "underground" by whispering.

You can acknowledge your child’s communication *without* trying to correct it or force them to say something different. You can nod, repeat what they said, or say “okay” or “yeah.” Don’t try to eliminate a gestalt/script just because you don’t understand it right now. It’s meaningful!

You can use context clues to decipher what the meaning was behind the script they were using and model for a more appropriate one if possible!

This is a beautiful, natural, normal way to help a GLP learn language!

If you have any questions, send me a DM or give me a call today to start with a FREE consultation! 🤍

Let's talk about redundancy in play!

It doesn’t need to be fancy- you are the best tool.

Start by doing the same activity, but adding something new, like streamers!

This helps create flexibility in their thought!

Wondering how to advocate for neurodiversity-affirming goals for your child? I can help!

I know you are just starting the IEP season for this school year.

✨ So, let's get ready to support your child with neurodiversity-affirming goals!

🤍 This means your child is a gift & they should be celebrated in every way.

🧠 Every individual has a unique brain & different abilities, values, passions, & support needs.

✨ So, all goals should be tailored to each child.

This way of thinking might be new to you, or you might have seen goals that look different than this. That's okay! Different approaches work for different people.

Here at One-on-One Speech Therapy, I firmly believe in following the child's lead, that connection & trust are key, & in using each child's interests as an advantage (not as a reward)!

Swipe through the graphics to find 5 tips to help you advocate for neurodiversity-affirming goals for your child.

Neurodiversity-affirming goals should:
✨ Include the child's interests & personal preferences
✨ Allow the child to meet sensory needs
✨ Accept ANY & all forms of communication
✨ Prioritize connection over compliance
✨ Be met in a natural way that is focused on play & shared joy

🎉 These are goals that are made to celebrate your child for who they are & support them on their communication journey!

Drop a 🤍 if this was helpful!
