Basil has different chemotypes (chemical types). These different chemotypes help us determine usage, benefits and especially safety! Generally speaking, you want to make sure you have the LINALOOL chemotype of basil. In the video, the gentleman talks about methyl charvicrol being 1% in one plant and 35%-40% in another. Also he mentions one for perfumery and one for food. There are reasons for this! Not all plants create chemotypes, so be familiar with the more popular plants that do, so that you can be safer and conscientious with your aromatherapy choices.
