How often does the race feel unwinnable—like you’re already behind before the game even begins?
Sometimes it feels like a storm rolling in, heavy and dark on the horizon, where you can see and feel the impending doom. Other times it creeps in silently, building in the background, waiting to strike when you least expect it.
I often feel this way myself. Like that clown in the circus spinning plates, I have to keep up the momentum or everything comes crashing down. It almost feels like part of my personal brand to juggle too much at once—but that doesn’t mean it’s good for me.
Recently, I wrapped up a mini course for equestrians, and one of the steps applies perfectly here: break something big into baby steps. This isn’t easy, because we all want to reach the finish line first. When I keep score, I tend to look at the half-finished project and only see what’s left undone. That storm of unfinished tasks makes the whole race feel overwhelming, even unwinnable. And that’s when I start to label myself a failure.
Breaking things down into smaller steps changes everything.
I’m a list girl—my lists even have lists. One of my big fall projects is opening part of my storage yard for Thor and Sol. The goal is simple: move their stock tank closer to power so I can run a tank heater this winter. But to get there, I first needed to organize and move everything out of the way. Horses don’t need to be stepping around rebar, railroad ties, or lumber—especially not a curious young c**t.
So, I pulled out my giant Post-it pad and broke the big task —“Open the storage yard”—into smaller steps:
• Organize and move stuff
• Measure for temporary fence
• Gather t-posts and hog panels
• Take down the dividing fence
• Finish hot wire
You get the gist.
And you know what? Crossing off those little steps this weekend felt incredible. I could see the progress build. I wasn’t stuck in the storm anymore—I was shifting the score in my favor. I was winning the race, one small step at a time.
And you can win your race too. I’ve got free time this week if you’d like some help figuring out how. Together, we can build a plan that helps you weather the storm, shift the score, and cross your own finish line.

I did a thing!!

I've posted about the challenges of creating this mini course a few times. After several trials and a bit of sacrifice, it's complete! They've uploaded it to their portal and is available to VIP Challengers. I'm very excited to get some feedback about it!

Thank you Horse Help With Michael Gascon for giving me the opportunity to share this with other horse owners who may be struggling with fear, doubt and a lack of confidence. Together, we are Breaking Through Barriers!

Happy First Day of School!

I’m participating with just two horses this round.

First up is Rosabelle!
She’s still spicy, sassy, and super smart—and wow, she’s really evolved through these past few challenges. I’m super proud of how far she’s come, but I’ve also discovered a few gaps that need some attention.

Goal #1: Straight lines.
I swear, this girl is like a drunken sailor! Round pen work went great, but once I moved into larger areas with only one fence line, “Bob and Weave” showed up in full force. Let’s just say, my ability to stay on at the canter got a solid test.

Goal #2: Disconnecting her feet from her nose.
Whenever I pick up a rein, she wants to step that direction instantly, which makes some of our more advanced skills a little trickier than they should be. If we can sort this out, it’ll really smooth the path forward.

We’ve also got the Trail Horse Test in October, so I’ll be chipping away at skills like backing through an “L” and sidepassing. None of it comes without a little pain (mostly mine, ha!), but that’s part of the journey—stretching, learning, and growing together.

And now for my second horse—Sol.
He just turned two at the end of July, and we’ve already had FOUR successful rides (and ZERO bad ones!). My goals for him are simple: keep progressing! One specific goal is correcting the way he tips his nose to the outside and bows his neck when we’re going counter-clockwise. Another is to convince him that the giant ball is for pushing, not climbing on, especially when I’m in the saddle—LOL.

Sol is still a stud c**t, which can make him a bit challenging at times, but he is truly super sweet. I’m giving myself a pat on the back for getting him under saddle before the Challenge even started. This program has boosted my confidence in working with and training young horses more than I ever imagined. Huge thank you to Team Gascon!

So glad to be here again… and of course, Wyoming weather seems to know exactly when Challenge season starts, because it’s raining!

✨ What about you? As this Challenge kicks off, what are you hoping to discover with your horse? Share your “first day” goals—I’d love to cheer you on too!

And to all my non horse followers, how do face challenges? Do you set goals?

I’ve been brainstorming a mini course for months. The idea came easily—it kept showing up as a common theme in the Horse Help Challenges I’ve been part of. Fear, self-doubt, and confidence seem to walk hand-in-hand with horses and horse owners. Whether it’s falling off after a spook at a puddle or standing unsure with a new horse, these three struggles tend to find us. I’ll admit—I’ve experienced all of them along my own journey.
It felt like the universe was nudging me toward creating a solution. The content flowed naturally, but simplifying it was the real challenge. I had to break things down into bite-sized pieces, with clear highlights for each slide. And then came the hardest part of all: making it personal.
Just reading from a script didn’t feel like enough. So, I locked my inner critic in a room and turned on the camera. All day, I bounced between two computers—one running PowerPoint and recording video clips, the other holding my script for me to memorize and read. Talking to the camera instead of a real client was strange at first. There’s no substitute for a one-on-one Gestalt session, but in a way, I became my own client.
Looking back, I realize how blessed I’ve been to always have the right person at the right time on my horse journey. That’s why I created this mini course—for the ones who feel stuck, who haven’t yet found that person. My hope is that these lessons will help someone take the next step forward with their horse—and with themselves.

Photo comment: Earlier in this session, we had a little ball mishap where I dismounted quickly. Ironically, my shirt says "No Bad Days" and it was very fitting!

To everyone out there creating mini courses, OMG!! Super kudos to you! I spent all day recording myself in snippets and creating slides. My brain hurts! I'm starving! And I think I might be a little cross-eyed! LOL
Thankfully, most of what is left is formating but I do need to re-record 2 segments, dang it!! Guess I'll don the same blouse and makeup tomorrow to recreate.
I've only worked with PowerPoint a few times and I've never recorded cameos in it so, all in all, I guess I didn't do too bad.

Connection, communication ~ face to face, not online, be present and aware when interacting with others. These are all things that I feel are important for healthy mental and emotional states. The horses remind me of this regularly! Reach out if youre struggling and want to experience how horses are healers.

There is something to be said for self-care. We often don’t realize how badly we need it until the system shuts down—like a sudden power outage that forces everything to stop. Only then are we made to assess the situation, come face-to-face with the red flags we’ve ignored, and recognize just how depleted we’ve become.

While self-care begins with us, it often takes community—sometimes unknowingly—to bring it fully to life. That’s what I experienced this past weekend at Wonderwood.

I first attended last year, in its inaugural season, simply to observe. This year I stepped in a little deeper, somewhat timidly, by joining staff. I committed to facilities work—setting up, tearing down, the kind of background tasks I could do with my eyes closed. If this were a theater production, I’d be the one behind the curtain, pulling ropes and swapping props, content to stay quietly in the background.

Even so, I made time to sit in on an array of workshops and talks, gathering knowledge, noticing both the parallels and differences with my own beliefs. On Saturday, I was deeply moved by a woman who stepped out of her comfort zone to sing for us. Her voice and its melodies were transformational, touching each person present in a different way. I was so moved that I began to sketch her as she sang—much like my “Mumstober” drawings. I finished just as her final note lingered in the air. Gifting her the sketch felt like sharing a piece of myself in response to the gift she had so vulnerably given us.

The truth is, I’ve been pouring myself out—physically, mentally, and emotionally—into projects, people, and horses these past several months. All of it was intentional, and all of it was worth it. But it left me drained. The universe must have known.

Those four days camping in the woods were exactly what I needed. The people, the energy, the land—all of it revitalized me. We became a community, and that community nourished me in ways I hadn’t realized I was craving.

Sometimes the deepest care arrives in quiet, unexpected ways: in song, in shared work, in laughter around a campfire, or simply in the presence of others who gather with open hearts. Wonderwood reminded me that care flows both ways—we give, and we receive.

I leave with new thoughts to carry forward, and with a deeper trust in the universe’s timing.

May you, too, find the community that nourishes your spirit, and may its gifts arrive just when you need them most.

From Rust to Radiance
I glanced into the five-gallon bucket to see what I had to work with. Most might only notice a pile of horseshoes covered in rust. I saw blank canvases waiting to become something new. After a soak in CLR, a bit of scrubbing, and some gentle hammering to remove the old nails, they were ready.
Like words on a page, each bead created a story. They seemed to know where they belonged—when to pause, when to add more, and when the piece was complete. Beaded horseshoes are something I’ve made sporadically over the years, often for a particular person and always with intention. These, though, are different. They aren’t meant for anyone in particular. My intention is simply to share them, to have them ready for an upcoming earth-themed event. Each one now carries the colors and textures of the earth itself.
They’ve sat on my to-do list for a while, nudged aside by other priorities. Maybe, though, it was more than that. Creating something for sale feels vulnerable. What if they aren’t good enough? What if people don’t see their value? That little voice of doubt whispers: They’re silly. They’re ugly. Who would want them?
And then I remember what I already know: they are beautiful. They are intentional. They were made with heart, and they will connect with the right person at the right time. Over the years, people have shared with me where their horseshoe has found its place—hanging in a window, welcoming guests on a fence, or brightening a quiet corner of a room. Each one lands where it needs to be, carrying joy with it. And in doing so, it brings me something too: fulfillment, my deepest value.
Each horseshoe seems to know where it belongs, carrying a quiet kind of magic. Perhaps that’s what art really is—a bridge between maker and receiver, carrying intention across the space between.
I believe the right creations always land where they’re meant to be, bringing joy along the way. And I wonder—what has found its way to you lately, just when you needed it most?

Time stands still… yet somehow flies like a jet.
The last 30 days? Jet-like. A whirlwind of growth, grit, and a whole lot of horse hair.

For the last several years, I’ve been quietly following Michael Gascon — participating in challenges, soaking up lessons, and cheering from the sidelines. I first met him in 2017 at a clinic, with my gelding Thor in tow. Since then, I’ve been on board — a full-fledged fan (not a card-carrying fanatic, but let’s just say my boots point in that direction).

I’ve started two young horses using his methods. I’ve picked up new tools, polished up old ones, and stretched myself in ways I didn’t expect. But the greatest gift? Rekindling a passion I thought I had lost.

When my heart horse, Little C, left this world, I was ready to pack it in — sell the herd, shut the gate, and walk away from horses altogether. But Rosabelle, just a baby at the time, wriggled her way into the shattered pieces of my heart. Then came Sol — whose personality is every bit as bright as his name. Even the crankiest Scrooge would smile at his antics.

The Horse Help Challenge may be over, but the journey isn’t. In just a few days, Rosabelle and I will be rolling into Mississippi for a retreat — yes, in the infamous Gypsy Wagon.

I am a better horsewoman.
I am a better human.

If you haven’t joined the Horse Help Challenge yet, I highly recommend taking a closer look. You might just find something you didn’t know you were searching for.

Because Michael isn’t just a horse trainer.
He’s a life changer.
