Last year, CarePatrol Reading and Berks owner, Kirk Campfield and team member, Margo DeRouchie joined the Berks County Walk to End Alzheimer's in memory of Margo’s Mom.

This was what Margo had to share about her personal experience. “This was my first walk and I was holding the purple flower on stage in memory of my dear mom. It was an honor, but such a deep loss in my life. She was everything to me and I was so blessed to have her in my life as long as I did. She was a nurse by trade and such a caring, compassionate woman. My mom was having mini strokes and was diagnosed with vascular dementia. For all that she did for me in my lifetime, I wanted to be there for her! I’m so thankful for the senior living community that she was living at as she didn’t need to go to a memory care unit and it was so convenient for me to stop in after work every night. I wanted her to have the dignity that she deserved!

As many of you know, it’s heartbreaking to gradually lose someone that you love so much! The good days far outweigh the bad days…I fondly remember the good memories of her and I was blessed that she knew me or recognized me in some form and thankfully she was still her sweet, loving self!

For anyone going through this, my heart goes out to you as I know how difficult this can be! Music helps, as does playing games or doing things with your loved ones that they enjoyed doing, it helps to trigger fond memories. If they get confused, argumentative or combative, leave the room or walk away for a few minutes and change the subject and they will calm down. Keep in mind that there are times when they’re hallucinating and going back in their mind to another time in their life. You either need to play along with it, as it can help to bring them through it.” 💜

It was lovely to see everyone that attended as well as Erin & Missy of Juniper Village, who support our business.

Owner Kirk Campfield and his daughter Chloe recently visited Heather McCool, PCHA at Celebration Villa of Exeter to take a community tour. There are many care capabilities in their new Memory Care wing! Plus they left with a pumpkin cheesecake to boot!

Heather provided a lovely tour and it’s easy to see that she’s in the right career and passionate about her work! 😊❤️

We couldn’t ask for a better day for the Berks County Walk to End Alzheimer's! Margo was honored to represent the purple flower in memory of her beloved mom. There are so many moving stories, and many of us that have been touched by Alzheimer’s in some way. Our CarePatrol team was joined by Sense of Peace Home Care, LLC and H2 Health! There are so many advocates that are helping to make great strides to 💜

Margo DeRouchie, a member of the Berks team Campfield Cares, shares her personal motivation for walking and fundraising this .

"I was personally affected when my mom, Mary Ann, was diagnosed with vascular dementia. I was gradually losing her and it was both tortuous and heart-wrenching to watch someone you love and respect disappear. My mom was once a nursing supervisor at a local hospital. She loved helping others and was a beautiful person inside and out...a fun-loving, intelligent, hardworking and compassionate person. She loved life; traveling, gardening, music, her faith, playing games, reading and constantly learning! Family meant the world to her and I did everything in my power to be there for her until the very end. Whenever I entered the room, my mom would light up and smile, a reflection of her appreciation of what I was doing for her. She was the light of my life and the reason I participate in Walk to End Alzheimer's."
