I am running on fumes.

Thursday night we were up all night with the emergency vets, making hard decisions for Nacho’s care, before I was finally able to pick him up at 5 a.m. Friday night brought more calls including two cats with broken legs and one with a facial injury. My heart was so heavy worrying about them and getting them the care they needed.

Then this message came through. A "Smiley" update.

Seriously… tears fell from my eyes. All the effort, the worry, the sleepless nights, and the hope I pour into these cats—this is the reason. To see them like Smiley… healed, happy, and loved. ❤️

I couldn’t do this without all of you. Every post, every plea, every share, our BCIC FB friends are always there, making the care we provide possible. That picture of Smiley was the reminder I needed... keep fighting.

We have more cats who need us. February is here, let them feel the love. 💕 🐾 Donations can be made to Berks Cats in Crisis, PO Box 723, Reading, PA 19607 or paypal.me/berkscatsincrisis. As always, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. And thank you for sending updates on the cats we help. The timing on Smileys update was purrfect! ❤️

Help Needed for Nacho!
Last night we received a call from Blue Pearl Emergency Vet about an injured orange and white cat who had been hit by a car.

A compassionate woman was driving when she noticed him struggling in the middle of the road. Without hesitation, she stopped, gently scooped him up, and rushed him to emergency care. Because of her quick action, Nacho is alive today.

At the hospital, Nacho was found to have swelling and bleeding around his nose and was knuckling on his right front leg. Bloodwork and X-rays were performed and, thankfully, no broken bones were found. However, the knuckling suggests a possible neurologic or nerve injury (brachial plexus). These injuries can take weeks to heal, and sadly, if the leg does not regain function, amputation may be the only option.

Nacho was hospitalized overnight for close monitoring. During his stay, he developed a fever and required IV fluids, antibiotics, and pain medication. He will need strict cage rest and has a follow-up appointment with our vet scheduled for later this coming week.

Through all of this the pain, the fear, the confusion Nacho has remained sweet and gentle. He leans into affection, even while scared and shaken, as if he knows people are trying to help him.

We are reaching out with heavy hearts because we are in desperate need of donations to help cover Nacho’s medical care. His bills are already significant, and his journey is not over yet.

If you are able to help Nacho, please consider sending a donation toward his medical expenses to Berks Cats in Crisis, PO Box 723, Reading PA 19607 or paypal.me/berkscatsincrisis. Every share, every dollar, and every kind thought means so much to us and Nacho.

Thank you for helping him!

Sweet Kiera has come such a long way! After overcoming sickness and injuries, she is now the most loving and playful little kitten full of energy and non-stop purrs.

Thanks to our wonderful friends at Pawsitive Hearts Pet Therapy and Rescue, Inc. Heart Rescue, Kiera was matched with an amazing family and was officially adopted on Monday! They say she is absolutely purrfect and we couldn’t agree more.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who donated toward her medical care. Kiera has a second chance and a forever home because of you. Your kindness truly changes lives. ❤️

Update on Nipsie 🐾

First and foremost, thank you to all of our incredible sponsors who made Nipsie’s medical care possible. Because of your generosity, he was able to receive the urgent treatment he needed and begin his journey toward healing. None of this happens without you.

We also cannot express how grateful we are for our rescue partners who step in when it matters most.

As soon as we shared Nipsie’s story, we received a message from Carol asking if he had placement. At that point, Nipsie had only been with us a few hours. He was still recovering from surgery, in pain, and we didn’t yet know what his temperament would be like after everything he had endured.

But Carol believed in him.

She saw past the wounds and uncertainty and opened her heart to give him a chance. Just a few days later, the transformation is nothing short of incredible (see video). A life changed. A brand-new beginning.

This is why partnerships matter. Every cat in our program is fully vetted and receives the medical care they need before placement, but it’s compassionate people like Carol who complete the story. Seeing Nipsie safe, relaxed, and being loved on makes our hearts absolutely explode.

Thank you, Carol, for believing in him when it mattered most. 💙

If you’re part of a rescue and would like to help BCIC with placement, please reach out to us. Together, we can keep turning compassion into second chances.

This sweet kitty showed up at a feeding station in Womelsdorf with an injured leg. He was hurting, scared, and trying to survive the only way he knew how. Thankfully, someone cared enough to step in, contain him, and get him to the vet.

The diagnosis was hard to hear, Fluffy’s leg is broken and cannot be saved. He will need an amputation, and surgery is being scheduled. It’s not the outcome anyone hoped for, but it is the chance for Fluffy to live without pain.

BCIC was contacted to help with his care, and we are so grateful to assist in his care.

Here’s the part that gives us all hope, Fluffy will never have to live outside again. The person who found him has already committed to giving him a loving, permanent home once he’s healed. After everything he’s been through, he will finally be safe, warm, and loved.

Right now, Fluffy needs our help to get there. Donations are being accepted to help cover his surgery and medical expenses. Every single dollar truly makes a difference for him. Please consider making a donation to Berks Cats in Crisis, PO Box 723, Reading, PA 19607 or paypal.me/berkscatsincrisis.

Please consider donating if you can, and sharing his story if you can’t. Thank you for caring about Fluffy and helping him start this new chapter.

BCIC received a call this morning from Blue Pearl about an injured kitten in need of urgent help. This sweet baby, now named Nugget, is only 4 months old.

Nugget arrived with a fever, raising concerns about possible sepsis. Thankfully, his bloodwork came back clear, including negative results for FIV and leukemia. However, X-rays showed severe damage to his elbow. Sadly, his front leg cannot be saved and will need to be amputated so he can live a comfortable, pain-free life. Due to dehydration he will also require fluids.

We urgently need help with donations and funds to cover Nugget’s medical care and upcoming surgery. Every dollar truly makes a difference for this little fighter.

Despite everything he’s been through, Nugget is a loving, gentle kitten who is resting and being well cared for by BCIC.
Donations can be sent to:

Please consider donating or sharing Nugget’s story. Your support allows us to continue saying “yes” to cats like him when they need us most. We’ll keep everyone updated on his progress. Thank you for standing with BCIC and for helping Nugget get the second chance he deserves.

A caring community member noticed something troubling on her security camera. Instead of looking away, she acted. With patience and kindness, she was able to safely contain the injured cat and rush him to the veterinarian, then reached out to us for help.

They named him Nipsie.

Nipsie arrived with painful wounds on his face and legs that required immediate attention. His injuries had to be carefully cleaned and sutured, and to give him the best chance at healing, Nipsie must remain indoors throughout his recovery. For a cat who has clearly been through so much, safety, warmth, and rest are now essential.

Nipsie’s story began with one person choosing compassion. It can end with healing because of many. Please consider donating toward Nipsie’s care through our program. He survived because someone noticed. He will heal because you helped. 🐾

A compassionate mailman on his city route noticed a familiar cat once again covered in fresh injuries. Concerned, he spoke with neighbors and learned this poor boy had been living on the streets, uncared for, for over two years.

Wanting to help, he contacted his daughter, who was able to safely pick the cat up and rush him to an emergency vet for care. From there, they reached out to us at BCIC to see if we could assist with his medical needs.

What we discovered was heartbreaking but hopeful. In addition to painful battle wounds from not being neutered, he was suffering from an upper respiratory infection. Further testing revealed he is FIV positive. More diagnostics were completed to ensure the disease had not progressed and that his organs were functioning properly and thankfully, everything came back good.

Treatment focused on healing his open wounds and clearing the URI, and this sweet boy is now on the road to recovery.

We are incredibly grateful to Scott at Pawsitive Heart Rescue for stepping up to foster him. He named this gentle soul Bastian. 🐾 Bastian is truly a teddy bear of a kitty, so loving and non-confrontational, which sadly explains why he was always the one getting hurt on the streets.

If you would like to help with Bastian’s medical bills, please consider sending a donation to our program at Berks Cats in Crisis, PO Box 723, Reading PA 19607 or paypal.me/berkscatsincrisis. Every bit helps to make rescues like this possible.

Thank you all for your continued love and support. ❤️

Happy New Year from BCIC

As we say goodbye to 2025 and welcome 2026, we just want to pause and speak from the heart. This past year was filled with so many injured and forgotten stray cats and because of you, they were not alone. Your support allowed us to say “yes” when they needed help most, and that means everything to us.

Every donation, share, message of encouragement, and act of kindness helped give these cats medical care, relief from pain, and a chance at a better life. We’ve seen incredible resilience, healing, and hope this year, and none of it would have been possible without this amazing community standing beside us.

As we look ahead to 2026, we’re feeling hopeful and determined. We plan to help even more cats in need, expand our efforts where we can, and continue advocating for the strays in our community who depend on us. We’re also excited to share some meaningful fundraisers and projects in the coming year that will allow you to be even more involved in saving lives.

Thank you for supporting our mission and caring so deeply about cats who so often go unseen. We are truly grateful for each and every one of you, and we can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together in the year ahead.

With so much gratitude and hope,
❤️ The BCIC Team 🐾

As I sit here tonight, listening to the wind outside, my thoughts are with all the injured cats in our care and those still needing our help. I found myself once again reading through the Christmas cards we received, each one filled with words of encouragement, hope, and warm wishes.

It’s moments like these when your words truly mean the world to us. Your thoughtfulness and caring are felt more deeply than we can express. Thank you for believing in us and in all that we do.

Please know that your kindness gives us strength, comfort, and renewed purpose and it reminds us that none of this work is done alone. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us and for being part of this journey. 🐾

The holiday cold weather has brought many cats in need to BCIC, and the past few days have been especially heavy.

🐾 Smiley (Reading) was found limping through a neighborhood with a severely swollen leg. Thankfully, the vet was able to treat him with antibiotics, and he’s now on the mend. Even better...he may already have a home lined up!

🐾 Mama (Hamburg) came to us unable to use her back legs or tail. She was rushed to the emergency vet, where it was determined that the infection and damage from multiple bite wounds were too severe. With broken hearts, we had to make the kind decision to let her go. Rest peacefully, Mama 💔

🐾 Tango (Reading) was found with a serious head wound but was friendly enough to be safely contained for treatment. The vet cleaned his wound, started antibiotics, and confirmed he was already neutered. He’s now on the road to recovery.

🐾 Retirement Community Kitty was found with an injury near his eye. Thanks to Carol’s efforts, the cat was safely contained and will receive treatment this coming week. Our friends at Pawsitive Heart Rescue will be taking him in, and he will be placed for adoption.

We are still actively trying to catch two more injured cats:
• A tabby in Kenhorst with an ear injury
• A cat in Birdsboro with head trauma

We are incredibly grateful for the amazing people who donated to our program before the holidays. Unfortunately, the need is great, and funds are quickly absorbed by emergency care and vet bills.

If you are able to donate to help any of these cats, we would be so grateful. Donations can be sent directly to our program at Berks Cats in Crisis, PO Box 723 Reading, PA 19607 or paypal.me/berkscatsincrisis. Let’s help them start the new year with hope, healing, and the chance at a new life.

Thank you all for your continued support, it truly makes this work possible. ❤️🐾 (click on the photo to see details on their locations)
