Mothering is so much more. Mothering is love. Mothering is everywhere. Happy Mother’s Day to everyone! May you feel seen and loved for the nurturing work you choose to pour into, whatever that might mean to you in your life. And if today feels hard because Mother’s Day for you brings up feelings of loss, please know that you are not alone.

Happy Mother’s Day to the woman who became my whole world. 🥀

I lost my mom when I was just a year old. I never got to know her—but God gave me someone who filled that space completely: my grandma.

She’s been my mother, my father, my best friend. She raised me, guided me, and loved me unconditionally. Everything I am today, I owe to her.

Tonight, she asked me to help her post a Mother’s Day greeting. Then she said, “Wala pang nagllike, baka tulog na mga tao.” I smiled. Because that’s her—always excited about the little things, always so makulit in the most adorable way.

She might not know how much she means to me—but I hope she feels it. Every day. Especially today.

Thank you, lola, for being my everything.
I love you so much.

The wearable breast pumps provide women with an ability to multitask in new much deserved ways. I know clients who have used these while working as well. Have you used a wearable pump? Which brand did you like? What did find as pros and cons vs. a more traditional pump?

What I imagined I would create in our multiple-kids-share-a-room-space vs reality. We have lots of bed options, and they sleep on the floor most nights like it’s a camp out. We realized as they grew that spending money on nice furniture was not the best use of our money, and so they have thrifted items. And they are happy and fine. Doesn’t seem to make the furniture any less useful for their fort building, bed gymnastics, and dance party events. This all started a long time ago for us with the first time I planned, decorated and perfected a nursery space for my oldest. You guessed it! He never rarely slept in there and never once complained the crib and changing table wood colors didn’t match 😜. Sometimes i start to stress about my lack of pottery barn worthy bedrooms, and then I thank myself for giving them the freedom to enjoy and create in their rooms instead of holding them (or me) to an unrealistic expectation. The take away: enjoy the day dreams, create the nursery if it brings your joy. But hold it all loosely. And know that your child doesn’t need any those fancy items. In the end the things your baby needs in the early days are very few (you, diapers, a blanket to keep you both warm skin to skin, and a flat space to sleep when set down.) and your older children don’t need much either (clothing, a pair of shoes, a soft place to rest, your love and attention, and maybe a well loved stuffy that you can never find a bedtime)

As a friend, doula, and mother I take my job of holding stories very seriously.

Your birth story matters.
Your pregnancy journey matters.

Your stories of harm, “big” and “small,” they all matter and deserve to be heard and held.

And holding space for the stories that brought you to that moment in labor, as well the new story being written before me, THIS holding is my most vital part of my work.

I have had to honor to capture many pictures with client’s cell phones at births when working as a doula. Mackenzie Schwenig’s births was one of them! And now she is offering professional birth photography for clients of her own. I’m so proud of her, and OMG aren’t these moments she captured just so stunning?!

Myth: breastmilk is not needed/has no nutritional value after the age of one. Truth: breastmilk provides toddlers with immune support and valuable nutrition. Also, breastfeeding is so much more than nutrition. So how long should you breastfeed ideally? There is no one size fits all. The breastfeeding relationship needs to be working for both mom and baby/toddler. For some mother child diads that might mean not breastfeeding and utilizing the amazing access we have to really damn good formula and really damn good pumps in our country. For others this will mean weaning before a year. And for others it might be breastfeeding a 3.5 year old, like me and Very in this picture. There is no right or wrong answer. Thriving comes in all shapes and sizes. (And please don’t ever ask a mother if her toddler/preschooler is too old to breastfeed.).
