Three things that have always guided my PT approach: 1️⃣ meeting women where they are, 2️⃣ individual, private sessions and 3️⃣ functional, whole-body fitness.

By transitioning to a home visit model, I’m able to further my practice on all three of those fronts.

“Loving kindness towards ourselves doesn’t mean getting rid of anything…The point is not to try to throw ourselves away and become something better. It’s about befriending who we are already.” ❄️🌱🌻🍂

✨🏃🏼‍♀️‍➡️Your whole body works together, so we work on the whole body! This postpartum mom has been having foot numbness/pain through pregnancy and now as she is getting back into working out.

We did a whole session of dry needling and soft tissue work in her calf muscles. Just a reminder that pelvic floor PT can be much more than treating the pelvic floor exclusively!

In short, a lot! ⬇️ To train your pelvic floor, we work on training your breath, your balance, your strength, your posture, your mind, and your coordination…because all of them are so beautifully interconnected.

⚖️ Core Strength
Your pelvic floor is part of your deep core. Working alongside your diaphragm, abdominal muscles, and back muscles, the pelvic floor muscles keep you upright and steady.

⚖️ Stability Support
Your pelvic muscles stabilize the pelvis, and your pelvis is the foundation for your entire body. Without a strong and coordinated pelvic floor, your balance can be compromised.

⚖️ Balance & Movement
The pelvic floor responds to movements—like walking, running, or standing or picking things up—to maintain your center of gravity and prevent falls.

⚖️ Posture Connection
Habitual poor posture can weaken the pelvic floor over time. Your pelvic floor and your posture are in constant dialogue with each other and work together to help you feel balanced.

What can I say? The pelvic floor is an overachiever. If you’d like personalized support in healing, engaging, or strengthening your pelvic floor, I’m here to help.

Physical Therapy for Women’s Health

Women’s health is a specialty of physical therapy that is often geared towards addressing the dysfunction of the pelvic floor. Pelvic floor dysfunction is the inability to control the muscles of your pelvic floor. You may benefit from women’s health physical therapy if you have diagnoses such as prolapse, urinary incontinence, dyspareunia, vaginismus, vestibulitis, vulvodynia, coccyx pain, piriformis syndrome, sciatica, pelvic pain/dysfunction, constipation, f***l incontinence, and lower abdominal pain.

Meagan Moyers is the owner and physical therapist of Resilience Physical Therapy. Prior to starting her private practice in women’s health, she has 10 years of experience in physical therapy. Most of her experience has been in outpatient orthopedics, during which time she pursued post-doctorate clinical education in Maitland Orthopedic Manual therapy, as well as clinical certifications including dry needling and ASTYM.

Meagan is a wife to her husband Collin, and mom to her two daughters, Madison (4) and Ellie (2). In her free time, she can be found running on the trails around Chattanooga, chasing her kids at the park, savoring good food with good company, or relaxing with a good book and cup of coffee.
