Tight neck and traps? Save this post!
Just because your neck is having symptoms, doesn’t mean that the problem is starting there. In fact, it might be originating at your ribcage.
Here’s a chain reaction most people never connect:
When your ribcage can’t expand, your diaphragm can’t do its job fully.
Your body still needs air, so it finds a way to do that at the expense of your neck and trap muscles. They kick in to help lift the upper ribs when you breathe.
It works, but now those muscles are overworked 24/7 which is why you feel that constant tension in your neck and shoulders after a round of golf or a long match.
When the neck overworks, it pulls the jaw back and narrows your airway, so your jaw muscles tighten too. That’s why neck tightness and teeth grinding almost always show up together.
So, the fix isn’t your neck….
You need to address the ribcage and utilize your diaphragm first!
