❄️ Myth or Fact: Going out in the Cold gives you a Cold ❄️
👉 Myth! Cold weather itself doesn’t cause colds. Viruses, like the rhinovirus, are the real culprit.
🩺 The Truth About Winter Colds 🩺
🔹 Viruses, not temperature: You catch a cold when you’re exposed to a virus, not simply from being outside in chilly air.
🔹 Winter spike explained: Colds are more common in winter because people spend more time indoors in close contact, making it easier for viruses to spread.
🔹 Dry air factor: Cold, dry air can dry out nasal passages, reducing their ability to trap germs, which may make infections more likely.
🔹 Immune system stress: Being cold doesn’t directly cause illness, but prolonged exposure can stress the body, making it slightly harder to fight off infections.
💡 MCMH Pharmacy Takeaway 💡
Bundle up this winter, but remember: the cold doesn’t cause colds, viruses do. Protect yourself by:
🧼 Washing hands often
🤧 Avoiding close contact with sick individuals
💧😴 Staying hydrated and well-rested
💉 Considering a flu shot or other recommended vaccines

☀️ Myth or Fact: You can’t get sunburns in the winter ☀️
👉 Myth! Even in cold weather, the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage your skin. Snow and ice actually reflect UV rays, making sunburns more likely during winter activities like skiing or sledding.
😎 The Truth About Winter Sunburns 😎
🔸 Temperature doesn’t matter: Sunburn is caused by UV radiation, not heat. You can burn on a cold, cloudy day just as easily as on a hot summer one.
🔸 Snow reflection: Snow can reflect up to 80% of UV rays, doubling your exposure when outdoors in winter.
🔸 High altitudes: Ski slopes and mountain areas have thinner air, which means stronger UV rays and higher risk of burns.
🔸 Cloudy skies: Up to 80% of UV rays pe*****te clouds, so sunscreen is still necessary
🩺 MCMH Pharmacy Takeaway 🩺
Don’t let the cold fool you, sunburns can happen year-round. Protect your skin in winter by:
▪️ Wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+) on exposed skin.
▪️ Using lip balm with SPF to prevent chapped, burned lips.
▪️ Wearing sunglasses and hats to shield against reflected rays.
▪️ Reapplying sunscreen every 2 hours, especially during outdoor winter sports.

❄️ Winter Wellness Starts with Clean Hands 🧼
As the temperatures drop, so does our immune system’s resilience. One of the simplest, most effective ways to stay healthy this season is proper handwashing.
✨ Winter Wellness Tips from MCMH Pharmacy ✨
🔹 Wash often: Scrub hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds, especially after coughing, sneezing, or being in public spaces.
🔹 Don’t forget the details: Clean between fingers, under nails, and the backs of your hands.
🔹 Moisturize: Cold air and frequent washing can dry skin. Keep a gentle hand cream nearby to protect against cracks.
🔹 Stay hydrated & nourished: Drink plenty of water, eat balanced meals, and consider a daily multivitamin to support your immune system.
🔹 Bundle up: Protect yourself from the chill with layers, hats, and gloves as warmth helps your body stay strong.
💙 At MCMH Pharmacy, we’re here to support your wellness journey all winter long. Stop by for trusted advice, essential supplies, and a friendly reminder that small habits make a big difference.
